This was nearly a record, for number of tired, hackneyed and cliche' excuses tried by one person to avoid getting towed, which was impossible because by the time he came out I already had his car hooked, so at minimum he'd be paying for a drop.
I was just leaving
Shoulda' left a bit sooner then because here I am with your car in the air.
I didn't know I couldn't park here
It's private property, off the street, and you parked within full view of a "Private Parking" sign
I was just visiting!
And I was just wondering, can you hear okay? Because I don't recall saying that visitors were exempt from the rules.
They told me I could park here!
I don't know who told you that, but this building is owned by Harrington Reality, and they did not give you permission to park here because if they had, they'd have given you a permit. Only cars with permits can use this lot. So, again, I don't know who told you to park here, but it wasn't the building owner, the only person who matters. Whoever this mysterious "they" is, they don't have that authority.
Well, then, I was given bad information, so it's not my fault!
It's your car? Then it's your fault where you park it if you park it wrong
"They" said we could park anywhere on campus this week and not get towed!
Ah, now I see, you mean "they" as in the University parking department? Well, this may come as a shock, but you are not on campus right now. Yes, I'm aware for new student arrival the University has said that they will let you park anywhere on campus during move-in and not get towed, but, right now, you are NOT on campus. In fact you are six whole blocks south of the southernmost piece of University owned property in all of the Borough right now.
"They said we could park anywhere on campus!"
Again, this is NOT campus, not even close, we're off by 3/4ths of a mile at least, the BUS that GOES to campus stops here to pick people up who don't want to walk that far, no matter how you slice it, this is a complete miss of the target. And, for what it's worth, the move-in week grace period expired when move-in was over, which was LAST WEEK, so even if this was campus, your time is still up.
"You are shitting me!'
Why would I lie?
Well, what if I can't afford the drop?
Then it's a full tow, $115. Better to pay it now when it's only $65
Can't you just call your boss or whatever and tell him I wasn't here?
Uh, no. Just, No. And you didn't even have the decency to give me some INCENTIVE to lie either, just expected me to do it out of the goodness of my heart or something? Incidentally, bribery wouldn't have worked either, but I'm just laughing harder because you didn't even try that tack.
I'm just a college student!
Don't worry, you will find that the tow man is the great equalizer in life. Everyone who illegally parks gets towed, student and teacher, fool and sage, rich and poor, young and old, sick and healthy, I towed the FBI for illegal parking once ya know!
My hand is heavy but fair in these matters. At this point, he does thrust the cash (that he said he didn't have) into my face.
I hope you enjoy picking on poor college students! I can't afford stuff like this!
Well, if that's the case, you probably shouldn't be using a notoriously gas-thirsty car like the Ford Mustang ya' got there for your daily driver then, and choosing to rev it up and chirp the tires in defiance of me as you leave the lot won't help that mileage get any better.... see ya round buddy!
