    A Complaint?

    sooooo i work in customer service at a store and well..
    SC=sucky customer

    SC: i would like to write a complaint..

    Me: hi..oh um, what? I'm sorry did you say a complaint?

    SC: Yes I'd like to write a complaint..can i do that here?

    Me: Yes ma'am *hands paper and pen* I'm sorry for what happened...what did happen so i can let a manager know and we can address the situation directly?

    SC: Well im tired of everyone in this store calling me sweetheart or hun its just plain annoying.

    Me:Im sorry for that ma'am.

    SC:*hands paper and pen back* it''s not you you've been very nice and thank you.

    Me: youre welcome ma'am have a nice day.

    SC: you too hun. *walks out*


    really...you just called me hun...AFTER complaining about it? sorry our store likes to make you feel welcome and homey..lol made me laugh more than anything

    Ahh, yes...the sweet sweet smell of hypocrisy...

    For the record, I am currently doing everything in my power to avoid quoting Monty Python on this one ^_^

      SC must have been at Pathetica, our new baggers are acting as if they were trained to say "sweetheart" or "hun" or "visigoth"... no wait, made up that last one.

        I'm sure it would be appropriate ... but what's the point of insulting someone who doesn't know they're being insulted?

          I had to get used to that after moving to the Midwest. I swear I thought everyone was hitting on me when people would say that in the stores. Luckily one of my friends was able to get me to understand that its normal and said "If you think it's bad here, just head down to the southern part of the state. It's worse there."
          Random conversation:
          Me: Okay..so I think I get why Zoro wears a bandana
          DDD: Cuz it's cool
          So, by using the Doctor's reasoning, bow ties, fezzes and bandanas are cool.

            Yeah, she really doesn't want to visit some of the stores down where my dad's side of the family come from. Hun, sugah (not sugar), darlin (not darling), baby doll...and the thing is they do not actually mean anything bad. It is just the way they talk. The women are just as bad as the guys on this (except the baby doll).
            Engaged to the amazing Marmalady. She is my Silver Dragon, shining as bright as the sun. I her Black Dragon (though good honestly), dark as night..fierce and strong.

              I do it. I blame my southern roots. My family has been in the south since the 1600s.

                Another thing down south is we call all adult females "ma'am" but nowadays a lot of females think that you're calling them old.

                    There are more then a few who do that. I'll admit. Sometimes it is just a regional thing. How a person is raised. For instance as somebody mentioned "Ma'm". I was raised that until you know how to 'properly' greet them is Ma'm. Once you know if they are married, single, or how they preferred to be addressed, then you switch to whatever..but until then..that is how you addressed a female. Had nothing to do with age.

                      The south U.S. isn't the only place to have something similar. In some areas of England, I had to get used to being called "pet" or "love" by older men.

                      When it's a regional things, and from people I encounter in normal day to day interactions (bus drivers, etc) then I don't really mind it all that much.

                      However, regional or not, I won't put up with it from a boss. Giving "cute" names to female workers and not male workers just, to me, shows they aren't considered or treated quite as professionally as the males. If you're going to call me hon, you'd best be calling my male co-worker dear, LOL.

                      Madness takes it's toll....

                        XD I served an English lady at work once. She was so lovely, and finished pretty much every sentence she spoke to me with "pet". It was too funny!
                        Also, one of the girls that worked with us for a while called everyone "love". She's 21! Lol!

                            Definitely a regional thing. I'm from the South, too. In some areas of the country, Ma'am is more or less an insult. In others, *failure* to use Ma'am is an insult.

                              The time I got reamed out over the phone for using "Ma'am," The SC told me indignantly, "I'm not old enough to be a ma'am!"

                              Odd. I didn't realize politeness had an age limit.
