ow: do I need my card to...you know, when you make books appear?
me: beg your pardon?
ow: you know, when you put a free book on the wall for me to pick up?
me: uh...
ow: when you request a book.
me : oh, a hold? What is your question?
ow: do I need my library card?
me: yes.
ow: well it's upstairs! Ok, I'll do it your way and go get it and call you back.
*she calls back 2 min. latter*
ow: I called to find out about my holds and you made me go upstairs to get my card.
me: what is your number.
ow: *gives me number*
me: *looking up books on hold but sees she hung up- I didn't even put the phone on the cradle, so I couldnt' have accidently hung up on her*
30 seconds latter
ow: you hung up on me!
me: I did not.
ow: not you, the library!
me: no, I did not.
ow: let me give you my number.
me: I already have it.
ow: No you don't! it's xx....
me: I have the number one moment....you have 3 books on hold. One is "Forever young" you are 10 of 60 holds. The other is "Green grass of forever" you are 40 of 118 holds. "Misty diamonds" you are 6 of 6 holds.
ow: I don't remember which one is the Danielle Steele book?
me:
one moment. That is Misty Diamonds. YOu are 6 of 6 holds.
ow: where am I on the list of holds?
me: I said 6 of 6.
ow: what about the other ones?
me: "Forever young" you are 10 of 60 holds. "Green grass of forever" you are 40 of 118 holds.
ow: what about the Danielle Steele book?
me: I told hyou you were 6 of 6 holds.

me: *repeats the books and holds*

Looking at her records, I see she lost her card 2x. I see she claims that she returned items. One time they did find a item she claimed was returned, so they took it off her record. But a lot of times she claims she returned something and we dont find it.

6/19/09 PATRON CALLED THE ALI BRANCH TO FIND OUT ABOUT THE ITEM "SECRET LOVERS." IN CONVERSATION PATRON INSISTED THAT WE HAD LOST HER BOOK, TAKEN HER BOOK AND WE WERE "OUT TO GIVE HER A HARD TIME." INFORMED PATRON THAT IT MAY TAKE LONGER TO FIND THE BOOK IF IT WAS PUT IN DELIVERY TO JUN. BRANCH AS IT WAS CURRENTLY CLOSED. INFORMED PATRON CLM RTN WOULD STILL BE IN EFFECT AND LOO STAFF HAD ALREADY LOOKED FOR ITEM AND NOT FOUND IT, TOLD HER THAT IF SHE HAD ISSUES WITH THE LOO BRANCH FOR "LOSING HER BOOK" SHE NEEDED TO CALL THEIR BRANCH AND DISCUSS IT WITH THEIR STAFF. 6/30/09 PATRON CLAIMS SHE RETURNED MCCARRY'S THE SECRET LOVER'S HARDBK IN PERSON TO JUNGMAN AROUND 6/27/09. AS OF 6/3/09 THE ITEM IS STILL ON HER RECORD. I RENEWED IT TO GIVE IT TIME TO BE FOUND IF THE ITEM IS IN DEL SOMEWHERE OR IN FACT SHE STILL HAS IT. CLAIMED RETURN ITEM. SW

), but apparently it wasn't entered into the records correctly, so they never saw it in their newfangled computer system. She had to either pay a fine (of $14, the full cost of the book) or lose her card. As a matter of principle, she wouldn't pay, and so never went to a library again.
