*shifty-eyed-look* I sort of suspect I've been to the fabric store in question, given that one particular store I go to is right now in the process of moving two exits down the freeway...
Yes, it is the one you're thinking of.

Believe me, I wish we were moved already! If it were up to me, we would've been in the new store no later than August. September-December is the busy time, and not getting Halloween merchandise has been a real problem. I'm just glad that they didn't set it up so Black Friday was opening day, that would've been a disaster!

I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

I feel very bad for anyone who is that insular. No desire to see the ocean? The Grand Canyon? The Everglades? I lived in Cleveland for 4 years and many locals felt that way, it was the best place on earth and anyone who didn't feel the same could go jump in Lake Erie. I will never understand that attitude...
My bf in high school had never left East Tennessee until a year after we graduated. His parents took him with them when they went to Myrtle Beach. He called me several times over the 3 days telling me he couldn't wait to get home.

SC: Oh, why'd you have to move so far away?
ME: It's a bigger, better store. We'll have almost three times the room we have here, more stock--
SC: But it's soooo far away! I'll never be able to get there! (dramatic flourish) I guess I won't be shopping with you any more!
Another reason for moving: One less whinny SC.

The supermarket where I worked was small and behind the times. The registers didn't even have scanners, which was unusual even back in the late 80's when I worked there. There were apparently rumors about our store being closed, and customers were always asking me if it was true. My response was always, "I sure hope not! I don't have a car and there's nothing else within walking distance!"

The store eventually did close about a year and a half after I left there. I think it's some sort of office building now.

Enhanced Driver's License. Border states issue them to people who can use them instead of a passport to travel to/from Canada. Dunno if they work for Mexico or not.
I use to have one of those from NY. The paperwork required was insane.
If you don't have your SSN card, be sure to have a copy of your W2 paperwork. Seriously, they wouldn't take my receipt for my SSN card even though it had my number on it.

There's a gun store here that moved... maybe 500 feet? It moved from one small strip of stores to the next lot - close enough the parking lots are joined. We have no idea why they moved, but we're glad... My boyfriend knows the land owner, and we both feel he's better off with a tenant who doesn't let her dogs poop inside the store.

              Been there, done that

When the GameStore I worked at was trashed by Katrina, the realities of getting HAZMAT and contractors in to fix up the store (let alone the mall it was in) resulted in our re-opening the store the Sunday of Black Friday week...which was the launch of the then-current Halo game, as I recall Largeish store, one long line from the cashwrap, along the entire internal wall of the store, out to the mall, from open to close for the next two months or so.

On the upside, the storm kinda....filtered out...the less dedicated employees and permanently closed some of our stores, so it ended up that all but one or two of us had been at some level of management at other locations. End result: a store full of people who really knew what they were doing, didn't f**k around, and we were able to deal with the massive crowds of customers that came as a result. We were also able to get away with essentially telling corporate to screw their "allotted hours" recommendations for that time period. We grossed something like a million bucks at that store in December alone >_> which is unheard of...So they couldn't really complain

Oh, and funny--my friend's dad was born in this state and has never gone beyond the borders. He doesn't feel there's any reason to.

Mmmm... as someone who's been around the world a bit, I actually can relate to their attitude. There are often wonderful places right under your nose that get overlooked when you keep thinking you have to go out of your local area to see anything worthwhile. I mean, your list: I went to the ocean. It looked nice, but... it mostly looked like Lake Erie with bigger waves. Went to some of the big canyons in the Utah/Arizona area... and had more fun at Hocking Hills (Ohio state park). I prefer my in-state amusement parks to the ones I saw in Florida. And so forth.

That's not to say that I haven't seen things I enjoyed outside of Ohio. I rather enjoyed my trip to the Amazon, and had a blast at some of the provincial parks in Alberta (even the small ones-- I've got some wonderful desktop pictures from Writing-on-Rocks), and there's a small zoo in the middle of St. Paul that I probably hit more often in four years there than all the Ohio ones combined in 20+ years, including the one that's Jack Hanna's home zoo (though, admittedly, this was in large part because it was free, and easy to do the whole thing in a couple hours).

But, yes, it is possible to live your entire life near your home and not regret it. Honestly.

It's actually rather common here ^_^ But then again, consider where we are...many people go out of there way to get here, rather than leave it. Even those who live here and later move away are often inflicted with what I like to call The Curse of New Orleans -- even if they hated the place, they get this inexplicable urge to revisit the town once a decade or so.

Not like there's much to do outside of the main town, anyway...The nearest major city is over an hour away, and it's not nearly as fun. Take a multi-hour road trip to somewhere else, where the food probably isn't anywhere near as good? WHOOO! Sign me up! ^_^

If you want "real world" big cities like Houston or Altanta or...uhm... Florida ? Yer in for a 5+ hour drive, a flight, or a looooong train ride. (Tho I will admit that we can get to just about any major city in the country by train starting from here -- we're one of Amtrak's end of line cities, so routes tend to branch outwards from here).

??? "Whinny" is a sound from a horse's MOUTH. A more appropriate term would be the (don't know the name for it) sound of "meadow muffins" being extruded. After all, that's a sound made by a horse's ASS (which would be a more accurate description of a SC).
