Bit of background: I work at a rather unique store that, among other things, rents most of our parking spots to students. There is quite literally a sign at both driveways and at every single parking space that has the business name, parking by permit only and that you will be towed at your expense.
We close the shop at 5pm Friday. Around, my boss and I go to do one last check of the parking lot. We find a car with no parking pass on it. We call the tow truck. J gets there and already has the car hooked to the truck when the owner and her boyfriend come running out. Owner talks to J and he tells her it's 40 to drop it, which is half the normal tow bill. He drops the car so she can get to her purse inside to get the money.
Well, she jumps in the car and tries to gun it to back out. J sees her and starts to back the truck up to block her in, but her boyfriend jumps in between her car and the truck so J stops as to not to hit him. Now there is only two ways out, J is blocking one with his tow truck and I'm standing in the middle of the other one to block it.
Apparently that little fact didn't matter to her. She guns it and heads straight for me. I don't know if she thought it would scare me and I would jump out of the way or what, but I didn't move. She did finally jerked the wheel and didn't hit me head on but she was still close enough that her side mirror damned near took my arm off. I'm okay, just a hell of a bruise.
We managed to get a partial tag number. It was given to the police and they are trying to track her down to charge her. Bonus, though, she didn't have a parking pass to our lot, but she did have a parking pass to the local community college. It is a very small school and I also attend classes there. The police said that if I see her car there, to call them and they will come up there to pick her up.
So back to my question. Would you rather pay a 40 dollar drop bill or be charge with assault with a deadly weapon?
