  • What would you do?

Bit of background: I work at a rather unique store that, among other things, rents most of our parking spots to students. There is quite literally a sign at both driveways and at every single parking space that has the business name, parking by permit only and that you will be towed at your expense.

We close the shop at 5pm Friday. Around, my boss and I go to do one last check of the parking lot. We find a car with no parking pass on it. We call the tow truck. J gets there and already has the car hooked to the truck when the owner and her boyfriend come running out. Owner talks to J and he tells her it's 40 to drop it, which is half the normal tow bill. He drops the car so she can get to her purse inside to get the money.

Well, she jumps in the car and tries to gun it to back out. J sees her and starts to back the truck up to block her in, but her boyfriend jumps in between her car and the truck so J stops as to not to hit him. Now there is only two ways out, J is blocking one with his tow truck and I'm standing in the middle of the other one to block it.

Apparently that little fact didn't matter to her. She guns it and heads straight for me. I don't know if she thought it would scare me and I would jump out of the way or what, but I didn't move. She did finally jerked the wheel and didn't hit me head on but she was still close enough that her side mirror damned near took my arm off. I'm okay, just a hell of a bruise.

We managed to get a partial tag number. It was given to the police and they are trying to track her down to charge her. Bonus, though, she didn't have a parking pass to our lot, but she did have a parking pass to the local community college. It is a very small school and I also attend classes there. The police said that if I see her car there, to call them and they will come up there to pick her up.

So back to my question. Would you rather pay a 40 dollar drop bill or be charge with assault with a deadly weapon?

OMG I'm so glad you're OK!

I'd call her a bitch, except that's insulting female canines everywhere!

Glad you're ok, a friend of mine got both of the bones in his forearm broken by a drivers mirror.

What a dumb bunny. Instead of paying $40, now she is potentially looking at a charge of felony assault. Idiot.

Suggestion to J: Next time, lower the car so they can get into it to get their money, but do NOT unhook it until they pay. Just a thought.

I'm surprised they didn't write the tag down before they lowered the car at all. Might be a idea next time you find a car with no business to be there.

What'd the boyfriend do? Jump in the car? Run away?

Glad you're ok, but I hope you don't do that again. To flip your question on its head a little: What would you rather do? Not be hit by a car, or catch a SC?

                      What a dumb ass bitch.

Even if she hadn't hit you with the car, she'd still face a criminal charge for theft of services.

In most situations, the person in the car is going to go the reasonable, not-a-felony option.

You got unlucky and got a crazy person. I'm glad you're OK, and I hope you can find her car and get her arrested. someone like that who only barely avoided running you over to avoid paying $40 has no right being on the street.

Definitely press charges. Bitch needs to learn her lesson the hard way.

Tow guy didn't get her plates before he hooked up?

Carina16 - I never thought I'd have to start a club for people who dealt with crazies being towed XD. Glad your ok. I had a similar one happen, posted about it back when I joined. I did have to jump out of the way tho.

Yeah, I'm surprised about this, myself. Granted, I know nothing about what their procedures are, but I'd note down the license plate and make/model/color first before hooking it up.

That way, even if they show up and pay the drop fee, you have that plate down and ... I dunno, sit on it, maybe keep an eye out for it if you suspect they're just going to illegally park somewhere else on your turf.

Oh, wait, there I am, applying logic to rules that are probably set down by some office schmuck who doesn't have anything to do with the actual work being done.
