  • Working the gate!

    Hello all,

To recap sense it has been a while sense I have posted. I am a security officer working at a gated community. I will give you a run down of what I do. I sit in a gaurd house which has a two lanes for entry, one is for members whch has a gate that will open automaticly for any car with a bar code sticker that they got from the managers office (for people who live here in what I will call the village), the other side (my side) is the visitor gate for people visiting or for people who live here and dont have a bar code or there bar code has been deactivated by the office.

My job it to write down the time of entry, there names of the vistiors and who they are visiting, or who they are and there address, also i have to write down there license plate number. Also we have what we call a temporary guest list so people call in guests that are not on the permanint list.

Now we have simple rules if you don't live here or your not on the list I cant allow entry, the only exceptions are delivery or post office vehicals also and utiliy vehicals. If there are homes for sale a personhas to be with a realtor. So one thing I have to deal with are people who randomly show up and just want to drive around and look at houses, and I have to turn them away. Because these people think this is a gated community just for the fun of it. Another one is people who used to live in the village whothink that just for that reason thay should be able to just drive in to show some friend were they used to live. but if they did lifve here in the past they should already know the rules.

I will have more stories tocome but this gives you an ideal of what I do.

Would I be correct in assuming that utility vehicles need some kind of legitimate work order for the area, because it seems like a horribly easy system to abuse otherwise.

Basically, it is a horribly easy system to abuse, but you could say it even worse then that.

We get so many landscapers Monday thru Saturday that as long as they can give us a proper address we don't ask questions.
