  • "You are prejudice"

[BG] I was on vacation for a week, and came back today. I was feeling fine. So of course I get a chicken-shit mental person.

    sc : chicken-shit mental person.
    me :
    cw: co-worker

    me: *answering spiel*
sc: I need information on Fannie Lou* Hemmer, her name is spelled H-E-M-M-E-R or H-E-M-E-R. *note, I thought she said Mary Lou. I need her date of birth, what school she went to, when she died.
me: alright, can you tell me what she was known for?
sc: She worked against Jim Crow laws. You don't know history, she was famous...
me: one moment, let me look her up *place person on hold*
google the name, Mary Lou Hemmer, found a Mary Lou Henner.
me: I found an actress. Mary Lou Henner.
sc: you made me so mad. Her name is Fannie Lou Hemmer. You are prejudice, you don't know history.
me: do you want to call back when you are not mad.
sc: no, you are prejudice, you should know who she is...
me: ok, if you arn't calm you can call back when you are.
    I hang up.
I have 2 cws answering phones it me. One is on the phone, the other isn't. Of course the bitch calls back; she should have gone to the cw that wasn't on the phone but I guess he logged out, asshole.
    me: *opening spiel*
sc: are you the whatever I talked to? You are...
    me: I'm not a whatever.
    sc: you don't know history.
me: do you want me to tell you about Fannie Lou Hamer?
sc: *saying more garbage about me*
    I hang up.
    cw gets her
cw: It's 2012....Ok, Fannie Lou Hamer. born 1917 blah blah blah...no, doesn't mention what city she was from. Ok, thank you.

Maybe I should have mentioned I was in Washington DC and saw the marker where MLK jr made his "I have a dream speech." But really, there are tons of people I never heard of. Until last week, I never heard of Nikolai Gogol. But looking at Fannie Lou Hamer's wikipedia entry, she looks impressive. But there were a lot of impressive people in the Civil Rights movement, I can't remember everyone.
Time! Time! Time is what turns kittens into cats.

Don't teach me a lesson; all I learn is that you are an asshole.

    I wish porn had subtitles.

prejudice n. an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason.

Looks like you don't even have to know who MLK or Rosa Parks was and still not be prejudice.

I didn't know who Fannie Lou Hamer was, either. Either they didn't teach it in history class or I was asleep while they did.
Fiancee: We're going to need to do laundry. I'm out of clean pants.
Me: Sounds like a job for Gravekeeper!
      Fiancee: What?!
      Me: Nevermind.

She may have meant Fannie Kemble, who was a stage actress in the 1800's who was also an abolitionist.

But the way the SC went about trying to get that information - IMO she really needs a dictionary so she can read up on what "prejudice" really means rather tha use it to prop up a leg on her sofa.

I think the word they were looking for was ignant, ignoant or ignorant for us normal folks.
Sadly they could not find the correct person to accuse of that with no mirror near by.

This is the woman Fannie Lou Hamer. The sc seemed like a crazy person, like the crazy person on last Tue. who wanted help with the printer but started to lecture me on respect.

Just like a lot of people haven't heard about MLK's brother Nosmo (involved in the anti-tobacco movement, rather than the civil rights movement) even though he was a big enough influence that even today, signs bearing his name can be found wherever tobacco use is prohibited.

I consider myself a fairly intelligent person. I also consider myself a student of history, and in college I minored in political science and took many history classes, and throughout my academic career, I always paid a bit more attention in history class than in most of my other classes.

And I had no freakin' clue who Fannie Lou Hamer was or that she even existed until I read this thread.

I may not know Hamer, but I do have a claw hammer that I can use to help the caller pull their head out of their ass, something they desperately need to do.

I am a history major. Heck, I'm a certified teacher and I didn't know who Frannie Lou Hamer was.

We can only remember so much. Just because we think a different topic is cool (I love me some church history) doesn't mean we're prejudice.

Oh wait, I bet she defines prejudice as people who don't like the things I do.

I think "prejudice" is the default word she uses when she hears something she doesn't like.

                      example:
sc goes to deli: I would like a pound of roast beef.
deli person: I"m sorry, we don't have any.
sc: you are prejudice! You should have roast beef!

Clearly the local grocery stores down here are prejudiced against Jews, which is why not one of them carry beef tongue, one of my favorite luncheon meats, and a staple in Jewish cuisine.

It must be prejudice. It couldn't possibly be the fact that there is little to no demand for the product in this area--it must be anti-Semitism!

(No, I don't believe a word of this....but man, do I miss beef tongue!)

Especially not someone who's story— and apologies to Ms. Hamer, who seems like a fine person otherwise— is boring. I far prefer to hear the fun stories. (Most recent one: Addison White. Although the person telling the story forgot to mention the running battle between the federal marshals and the local sheriffs.)

All she has is the woman's name and a minor fact about her; maybe she's "prejudice" for having to ask someone else for things like when and where she was born...
