  • WTF?! Disipline your damn kid!!!

I was working Saturday night and about 6:30 something this.......young person (I'm guessing 10) comes up slapping, knocking on, and punching the lobster tank. I tell him repeatedly to stop doing that and he repeatedly ignored me, then I heard him opening up the lobster tank to stick his hand in I told him not to do that either and to my surprise he stops and walks away. I watch him walk to the bakery where his mom was, I see them talk and then she looks at the cake display and the kid comes running back over and sticks his hand back in the lobster tank. Once again I tell him to stop and he does, then I see him looking at my frozen case and think that he's gonna start messing up the display items. Instead he rips the tag strip out of the display case, takes a couple of the loose tags and throws them in the lobster tank. As soon as I see him rip out the tag strip I start yelling stop, don't do that, I take the tags out of the lobster tank and I look the kid right in the face and say you shouldn't have done that, you don't rip apart a display and throw the tags in the tank. This kid just gives me a look like he doesn't give a shit and looks like I took away his favorite toy. His mom comes over and looks and sounds like a cross between annoyed and bored she says come on let's go then they both just stand there like nothing happened while I put back the tag strip and try unsuccessfully to reattach the wet tags. The mother didn't say anything to her kid and I didn't get any sort of apology from either of them, they went to get sodas off the display in front of my department the kid turning around and giving me one of those I hate you looks, yeah? I hate you too you little.....whatever I hope I never see them again. Worst kid I ever dealt with in the entire time I've worked, and that includes working at a flea market.

The worst part is given the lack of parenting when he's 40 years old, he'll probably have the same sucky attitude and be an SC in his own way... and have a similarly Rosemary's Baby child of his own.

Me: Sounds like a job for Gravekeeper!
    Fiancee: What?!
    Me: Nevermind.

Mommie Dreariest is not doing her kid any favors by letting him run rampant, wreck things and do as he wants with no boundaries. If he keeps this up, he's eventually going to get arrested for vandalism (or worse) and Mommie won't understand why.

Sorry you had to deal with those jerks. Would be nice if people would take responsibility for their actions.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

i'd say "too bad the lobsters didn't get ahold of him" but... we all know his mommy would have blamed you for it, not him.

Like those mothers who tell the reporters/police/everyone "My baby didn't do nothing!" ...? Even when there's video evidence.

On the bright side, this kid is going to probably be the one that picks out the home his Mommy will spend her last years in.

I've actually had the opposite happen to me. My husband and I used to watch a friends elementary school age child 30-40 hours a week, so we had permission from the mom to discipline K if she misbehaved (chores, sentences, time outs, etc). One time we were at Kfart and the kiddo, who was either 8 or 9 at the time, was acting up. After being warned to settle down several times, K said she couldn't help it she had too much energy. So, while hubby was in the checkout, I had K come outside with me and do jumping jacks to burn off that energy. One of the other customers leaving the store bitched me out for having her do exercise for a couple of minutes.

TEN? Sorry, ten is more than old enough to know how to act like a civilized person. Too bad the grocery lobsters' claws are taped, a pinch from one would have turned him right around (of course, then the mother would have screamed because little precious got hurt while harrassing the lobsters ).

It sounds like he's probably a handful and she's just tired of constantly disciplining him, but hey, you pushed him out, you're responsible for them until you die. And that includes discipline.

I went upstairs with Anthony (awesome manager) after my shift was over and he looked up the security footage, he said he was going to show my boss what happened. Apparently it was the same kid that Jeff caught ripping apart the holiday candy display up by courtesy, I found out about that when I went to go to the bathroom.

If I tried that when I was 10 my rear end would still be sore some 30 years later.

Could you have escorted the mom and her kid the rest of the time and blatantly say to the Mom, "I'm gonna follow you to make sure this child doesn't cause any more damage, like a mom should.."? Wonder if you could take on a small service charge to have the damage cleaned up.
