  • Grand Theft Candy Bar

The other night, on my audit shift, a guest walked into the motel lobby and stated he was going to take a snickers bar and he would pay for it tomorrow. I said no, you cannot do that. He looked at me and said yes he was and there was nothing I could do about it - what was I gonna do, call the cops? I told him again, no and you would not walk into a grocery store and take something off the shelf and tell the cashier you can pay the next day.

What was his response? He approached the desk and told me he was an effing guest at the hotel who had been staying there awhile and what was I doing - calling him a thief?

I wanted to say well yeah dude but i simply restated that he needed to put the candy bar back. He yelled some more. I mentioned that if he presented me with ID I could just charge the candy to his room. He showed me his ID but began yelling some more.

At which point I told him to leave the desk. I was just tired of him acting so crazy over a one dollar candy bar. He yelled some more at which point I told him I was ready to call the cops. Finally, he leaves after putting the candy back swearing he was going to tell the manager.

My final question - why did he not just ask in the first place if he could charge it to his room? Aaaaaaaaaaargghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Cause it wasn't about the candy bar. It was about him wanting to prove how "special" he was, that he could have what he wanted without paying like the "average" person would.

      Madness takes it's toll....
      Please have exact change ready.

I would have called the cops anyway. Just to piss him off. Some people. Just because they stay there all the time entitles them to "free" merchandise.
NEVER underestimate the stupidity of the customer

The guy was clearly trying to see what he could get away with just because he's a "guest" at the hotel. Throwing a stupid temper tantrum for a $1 candy bar??? How much is that room costing him? Because he must be paying a crap load of money to stay there each night, but he has an issue when it comes to paying $1 for a piece of candy.

Indeed. I'd like to see him explain to the cops just how "special" he was.

He's "speshul", just like the school he attended.
