    ..but ..But ...I'm a Senior Citizen B****!

    *back story* not sure what it is now, but senior citizen discount at the king of burgers used to be 60+ and we were told by corporate no sliding on this because people were too lenient in the past aka losing the company money.

    So... I'm at register old lady walks in:

    old lady: i need a breakfast sandwich and a coffee.
    me: i entered it and gave her a price.
    old lady: woa wait sonny... that's the wrong price i get senior discount.
    me: oh i'm sorry mam, i'll ring it up again can i see your id plz?
    old lady: what..? what did you say? see my id? i always get the discount.
    me: oh, i'm sorry mam but it's my first week and i was told to ask, don't mean ne offense.
    old lady: fine here...

    *this is about the time i knew it was gonna get bad cause she was only 52....*

    me: mam you have to be 60+ for the 10cent coffee.
    old lady: Oo i always get it... but.. But I'M A SENIOR CITIZEN YOU LITTLE BITCH!!
    me: really.. mam really? that's not even necessary... i'll give you the extra 90cents to pay for the coffee myself if you would just calm down.

    (Everyone in the store hears her shouting so my manager comes)

    boss: is there a problem?
    old lady: hell yea there is, this little shit won't get me my 10cent coffee!!
    boss: mam are you 60+? the company is very clear on this.
    old lady: fine whatever... this coffee sux anyways i'm taking my 10cent else where.
    boss: ok mam, that's fine too, you and your 10cents have a good day!
    me:
    boss: don't worry about those, you sadly get them sometimes.

    i think the customers were more shocked/pissed than i was but meh.. i eventually asked to be moved to the back where i did not have to worry about ridonculous customers and their random craziness!

    EDITED: I probably shoulda mentioned it in the original post but I heard the "old lady" came back for coffee a few days after this incident and paid the full price, minus the crazy

    what a nasty "lady"

    Especially since the common understanding of "senior citizen" is 65. So your company is lenient that they offer it 5 years early. Otherwise she'd have to wait 13 more years.

      So she's been cheating the system for who knows how long, and is upset that she finally got caught.

      Hasn't anyone told her that your 52 is the new 32?

        One of the stores around here offers the senior discount at 55. Kohls was (when I worked there 6 yrs ago) around 62. I'm 61 but have gotten it occasionally. I definitely wouldn't care one way or another.

          Same here, AARP says 55, as do some stores - but some do 60, some 62, some 65. If I want the discount (I'm above the first but not the others) then I ask what age they use and only ask for it if I qualify - with ID ready if they ask.

          And if they simply give it to me without asking, I accept the monetary gain and try to not get a bruised ego

              lol serious case of catch-22! still such a shocker to me... i didn't know people got that made over coffee/discounts -_- and esp in the morning. i barely have enough energy to open my eyes let alone fuss and cuss.

                  As remote as the possibility is, if I ever own a business, I will have a few special policies in place (enforced by signage, if need be):

                  If you broke it, you bought it. If your kid broke it, you bought it. Take it out of his allowance

                  The customer is often right, but not always. I get to decide the definition of "customer"

                  Cameras, with mics, everywhere a customer could conceivably go. If a customer says a worker is rude/etc, we go to the cameras and act accordingly

                  If you are on a cell phone when at the register for ANY reason other than needing to call your bank after getting a car declined/similar reason, you will be required (not asked) to step aside until you're done

                  If someone claims to be a lawyer/cop/etc, ask for their business card/badge/etc --- What attorney would leave the office without cards?

                  If a customer says "I'm never shopping here again!", present them with a document for them to sign, affirming that statement, and post their picture near the registers alongside anyone who has been banned

                      I'm a guy who has never been any sort of executive (although I have held supervisory positions). I stopped trying to make sense of mailing list demographics the day I received a form letter informing me that I was fully qualified for membership in something called The National Association of Female Executives.

                          That could just be a computer error. It's worse when in person. I once had a fast food employee ask if I qualified for the senior discount...when I was 38!

                            My sister's son took her out to a steakhouse for dinner back when she was in her 40's - when the bill came, it already had the senior discount taken off for her meal

                            Hubby gets asked/given discounts more often than I do, and he's 5 years younger

                              A "Senior Citizen" is defined as a person who is older than 60 years of age. Being in your 50's is way too young to be considered "senior".
