I had a (real estate) agent just call who was trying to click the checkboxes to the right of the listings she was selecting... she couldn't manage to select them.

She was right-clicking the boxes, and couldn't understand why it wasn't working.

I told her to LEFT-CLICK.

Her response? "Wow... I didn't know that would work!"

Heh, I remember a time when I was the 'lab-tech' for the university's open day. The whole CS dept was full of bewildered parents with their idiot spawn who were sure they knew everything about computers and that they only needed to go to uni for their beer money.

At any rate, I was charged with instructing the bemused computer-illiterate amongst the throng how to log onto the guest account and play. One person didn't get the concept of a mouse, so I tried instructing her.

I pointed to the pointer on the screen and said, "That's the representation of the mouse's position. If you move the mouse up, the pointer will move up too, and you can click on other things on the screen."

The woman promptly took hold of the mouse, and *lifted* it off the mouse pad. "It's not working," she told me.

I know ignorance is not the same as stupidity, but... damn!

Nope.... this was her home computer. So her normal setup. She mentioned that she's been using this mouse for over a year and never knew the difference between right & left click...

More times than I care to count, I have worked with people that didn't even know what the right button on the mouse is for. So "right-click" is just like saying "Como se llama" to these people.

"Okay, right-click anywhere on your desktop."
"I'm clicking, but nothing is happening."
"Are you pressing the left button or the right button?"
"Oh. The left."

"Press the right button."

I now dread having to walk people through restoring icons on their desktop. Because they never listen or cooperate with me while still whining about how long this is taking while they have patients. If you'd shut up and do what I tell you when I tell you to do it, we'd have been done by now.

I work repairing all platforms, and I also offer tech support. as the senior Mac Technician, it is doubly hard for Mac users as some are using the Apple one button pain in the a**, and in order to "Right-Click" you have to depress the 'CTRL' button and then click to get the same effect. Fortunately 99% of these customers very quickly see the benefit of purchasing a 2 or 3 button USB mouse. Unless of course they are pre-OSX in which case all you can do is "Contol-Click".

Tech support for an ISP reveals tons of dummies. Once you tell them to right click something, they have to confirm which clicker to use for EVERY gol dang click thereafter. Even when I specifically tell them that a "Click" is ALWAYS a left click. If I want a Right-Click, I will tell them to right click. Not only are they dumb, but deaf as a f*cking post as well!

I for one cannot live without many-buttoned mice anymore. Scroll, scroll-click, thumb button to go back a page... this is just how I roll. It freaks me out when I try and use a lab computer with... only two buttons.... <shudder>

I have a mouse with a thumb trackball, and two extra buttons, one right under the trackball, and one in reach of the pinkie.

When I was working on a calendar of events, those two buttons (set to copy and paste) were my life!

But, I quit working on the calendar, and it was REALLY hard to pay Sims 2 with a trackball. Sigh.
