  • Stubborn users..

I get emails all the time for really simple things and normally it's easier to tell them how to do it for themselves as opposed to be heading out there to do something that minor (install printers etc..).

Why is it people still tend to mess these things up? I don't tell you to rename the files so why do you then wonder why it doesn't work?

Yes, you feel you shouldn't have to install the printer but I do a lot of things I shouldn't have to. Either follow the directions I sent you or call the help desk and have them remote in and do it for you (in three times the length).

    Phone support

One thing that use to bug me, user calls about a problem then acts like I can see their screen.

Now, if they are using a standard setup I often can build a mental image of what their screen looks it, but if they have a custom/tweaked setup then all bets are off.

I try to explain this, and yet they refuse to turn off the tweaks so that I can help them, and get very anger when I do say I can't do it while they run their special setups.

See what I love is my job gives me remote view, and access.. best part is the customers that state "Well if you could control my mouse then why did you not just log your self in!?"
Crono: sounds like the machine update became a clusterf*ck..
pedersen: No. A clusterf*ck involves at least one pleasurable thing (the orgasm at the end).

I actually got in trouble for that when last I worked retail. Silly me- old printer dead, new one came, would be nice to have it to close, so logically, why *not* hook it up? God knows I know how! I had a minor problem that I solved by calling DH who reminded me what I did wrong.

Next day the tech came to install the printer. Sorry, sir, I did that last night. He was quite understanding, but I understood I was never again to touch computer guts while at work.

OTOH, the organizations that work with children are more than happy to let me tinker w/ the comp, it saves them a tech call (and I have worked with some really uncomputer compliant people).

Oh, I used to hate this as well. Many of these people would get upset with me when I asked, "What do you see on the screen?" They would always respond with, "Well, you're there. Can't you see it?" Um, no, I cannot. We are your internet company, not Microsoft. These same people are also the same individuals who then suffer from a bout of paranoia, certain someone at their internet provider has hacked into their computer, and how dare we have access to do something malicious like that.

well i do know of some software that lets you do it. they use it where i work... so sometimes when i have an issue, i call up and they take over my computer to fix it for me.

but that's for work, so they legally have every right to access my computer & see what i'm doing. company policy & all
