Vista may be good for home use, but I do know one thing -- unless your network is pure Vista, don't even try. It doesn't play well with others! (Micro$oft seems to be less interested in backwards compatibility all the time. Same is true with Office 2007 - you can save files in a backwards compatible format, but you have to be aware that you need to each time -- you can't set it as a default, and users who don't know this and send out *.docx or *.xclx format files cause all sorts of problems for people who haven't upgraded yet!)
I will not be pushed, stamped, filed, indexed, briefed, debriefed, or numbered. My life is my own. --#6

That's not true. I have it set as default on my PC.

      EDIT:

Circle button thing-> Word Options -> Save -> Save files in this format

Also not true. They released a compatability pack for 2003 to handle those in a basic fashion. You lose any of the features used, which can cause formatting issues, but you can still open it and work with it.

Also, I managed to network my old XP laptop with my x64 Vista desktop with minimal issues. Took maybe 5 minutes.

No cable here, unfortunately. Or maybe fortunate - cable provider out here is Comcast.

So it's either satellite or wireless.
whatever you do. don't get satellite.

Oh yes, I already know that, with the latency issues.

I actually got to try one of the wireless options from a neighbor - I was impressed.

Ditto. We have a couple of Vista boxes running on our LAN at work, and our only real issues were finding a couple of the printer drivers that were needed. Lucky SOBs need them for the building design programs they use, and get LCD monitors bigger than my college TV. WANT!

Just installed Vista, the only network problem it had was getting the printer drivers for a shared printer. 2 mins on MS knowledge base and turning the accursed UAC back on (briefly) sorted it.

For a gaming PC it runs fine, there's some niggly little bits but I've only had it a week. I don't think there's too much at the moment to recommend it above XP but I wouldn't warn people to stay away from it either
