  • Lack of Planning

So I normally do not get crazy stories lately that are worth posting but my last two calls apparently changed that one.

    First Call
The company I support limits mail attachments to 2mb as instant deliverable. Anything 2-5mb are delivered next business day(don't ask why). This lady needed to send a file RIGHT now to a client and the client apparently needed it right then and there but its not happening. I sent a ticket to the group that handles those restrictions as exceptions can be temporarily instituted and I did it to mainly get her off the phone. But seriously plan ahead and know your own companies policies.

    Second Call
User needed a new AC Adapter for his laptop, they have to submit a request through IT Services to have this done(seperate group not me). He wanted to know if he can submit this request at 6pm(their time) and that someone will see it right away, process it and order it and get it here by Tuesday. Unreasonable request, yes. I can understand if it went out today but if it went out earlier in the day why in the world did you not request it earlier.

These people make more than me and yet unable to plan ahead.

    Uh...wow. Failure indeed.

Though I have a theory as to why 2-5MB attachments are delayed. Although this theory only works if that's a relatively common thing in your company.

If there's a large number of them, and they take a while to send, then if they're done "next business day", that means the server can queue them up and send them one or two at a time, instead of a lot of people trying to send them all at once, and killing your outgoing bandwidth.

Or they queue it up and send it out at night while most people are sleeping.
I've lost my mind ages ago. If you find it, please hide it.

Yes its company policy to restrict sending them all once and killing the bandwidth, something totally lost on some people that have complained about the size restrictions. If its past 5mb a ticket has to besent to the Security group to get a temporary restriction lifted.
