  • What happens when you assume

So company policy is all email that is stored on the servers after 90 days is automatically deleted. You can request a restoral but only for four weeks ago and only every friday at that. The only way to guarantee the email is not deleted is to archive it on your hard drive.

Call comes in that this guy just had a replacement computer sent to him and that he wanted to know where his archived email was. This guy did not use the company supplied drive to backup his computer and archived his email. He assumed that the email that is archived is stored on the server. Normally we could stop his old computer from being reimaged. However....this guy called 4 weeks later after he got his new computer...guy was not mad or anything besides at himself...

Ugh, I had this happen to me too. Except that he DEMANDED that his computer be upgraded to Vista.., and never said a word about his archived email.

Feh - when I moved to Vista I moved my own damned email (after doing appropriate googling for the knowledge of how to do it...)
