  • The IT department is NOT a free upgrade service!!

Why is it everyone thinks this, though?

IT has a budget, too and we can't blow though it.

If you don't like your laptop and just want an upgraded one, there is a process in which you order one, normally requiring a manager (or higher) approval.

Don't beg me for an upgrade and don't have your manage tel me that they approve the upgrade - you all know DAMN WELL the correct process - you just don't want to have the charge on your budget.

No, don't even have your director or even VP email me saying that it is OK and approved - I can only take these approvals (to upgrade people's equipment from my own stock) from MY boss - not your's. IT paid for the equipment in my inventory so why is it fair that IT pays to make your whiny ass happy? YOUR department should pay for it.

I have a hard enough time getting in what I need to get my job done and take care of people with real issues with their equipment.

We're having a similar issue with our head of Athletics and installing new phone lines. He refuses to pay for it, and so does MY boss. However, my boss's boss.....

    Yeah.

He won't even let us make a policy about it, because he doesn't want anything in writing.

And sooner or later someone will notice thousand of dollars of charges for phone lines that no one really authorized and then, thing should get interesting.
