  • Paging techs and their responses (ranty, long)

I've been working at my job since May. It's nice, and I enjoy it...but the on-call techs that we have for our systems do not rate the techs in my department very highly. We're the frontline support for everyone in the company, and daresay we're very good at what we do. When we page someone, there's a damn good reason for it.

But every -single- time we page one of the techs they're always so freaking snooty with us. "It's not my problem" "this isn't a priority" "you're an idiot for paging me".

Yeah, I know it's late. But FFS try to work with us, not against us. We're only calling you because we literally cannot solve the problem and it needs to be taken care of. Case in point from tonight.

Some tests were requested, and lab did the tests and got the results. They sent the results back to the system in question, but they didn't post. User calls up, says they talked to lab and got the results faxed down, but they -need them- in the system. I go in and verify through her screen and my own that the results weren't posted. I call one tech, they say to call Interface. Ok, no problem.

I page Mr. Interface, he gets back to me in about 10 minutes. No big deal, that's fine. I explain the situation to him. Why am I paging him if they have the results? Why is this a priority issue? Why can't it wait until morning? Am I certain that the results aren't there? While he's bitching about how horrible I am for paging him, he's poking around. Oh, look at that. The results were stuck because someone had the record open when the results attempted to post. Whoops.

Now, I don't know why the results wouldn't just hang out and get re-sent when the lock was cleared. Lo and behold when he manually re-sent the results they posted in the proper place. It took him about two minutes to find the stuck results and send them on their way.

We're all on the same team, aren't we? Look, if you want to get the hazard pay for the pager, then prepare to get paged at any time of the day or night. Feel lucky that I didn't page your ass at 4 am and only paged you at 9:30 pm. It's as if they just don't trust us, but they should.

So infuriating -_- And now management has the grand idea to make us 3rd shifters work from 0000-1000 instead of 2000-0600 (I like this shift) on a schedule that means I will never see my s/o (as it is, I see her once a month if that).

"It's not our fault the Business School makes you buy those crappy Gateways!"
    "The queue is..."
