  • Mouse recommendations?

Since my former trusty Logitech MX700 mouse's left button has went out, I need to go shopping for a new mouse.

I'd like to get one similar, but I don't see a lot of choices for an optical wireless rechargeable mouse out there. I think for my next mouse I'd just be happy with optical, maybe laser if the price is right.

    So, any suggestions?

After years of messing about with various mice, including the cordless ones, I like the corded Logitech optical mice. My current one (a black, wheel mouse) at work is 4 years old, but still works like new. It doesn't fly very well if I need to throw something at an intern though

If you really like the feel of the old mouse, but don't want to dish out the money for a new wireless one, then the wired version of your old mouse is the MX500.

I use a Logitech MX518 mouse myself, and I love it. It looks similar to what you had, just a newer version.

Whatever mouse you look at, keep in mind that more money does not always equal more quality. I am not a fan of wireless mice, but that's a matter of preference really. Most nice wired mice you can get for less than $50, but if you want a really good wireless mouse, it's going to cost you.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that I've been a Logitech mouse user for almost as long as I've been using PC's. Started with the original MouseMan + - it's the first mouse that ever felt comfortable, and I used that till it practically fell apart.

I'll have to check out the MX500, and soon - I'm currently using my notebook mouse, which is way too small. It's one I got as a giveaway at an NBA game. Good for notebook, not so good for everyday use.

Newegg has really good prices on almost everything they carry. I think the MX500 might be discontinued though, because when I searched for it on Froogle, I didn't see it there. Newegg has also been amazing about getting products shipped. I go with their 3-day option, and if I add rush processing for $3, I have almost always gotten it the next day.

I would put alot more focus on the word almost. It's been my experience that newegg is slightly higher the less common the item you want. They're really cheap on stuff that outdated. But newer stuff, they tend to be much more expensive.

For example, I check newegg for a CH flight yolk/paddles for my father (who loves flight sims). Newegg was $60 more than alot of other folks. So always check.

The other thing with checking prices on Newegg is that when you buy things online, you want to be sure you are buying from a dealer that isn't going to rip you off. I've had nothing but good experiences from Newegg, so if they are $60 more for an item than other companies that I've never heard of and don't see any customer satisfaction ratings from, then I'm still going to choose Newegg. I would personally rather pay more from a trusted source.

But absolutely, find what you want to buy, then do a quick froogle search to see where it's cheapest. I use the Newegg site to do product research because of the customer reviews + high product details and spec info, then I froogle to see if what I have decided to purchase can be found cheaper elsewhere. 9 times out of 10, it's not, and if it is cheaper elsewhere, it's usually not by much.

I've been using the Microsoft Cordless Optical Mouse (Intellimouse 4.0) for quite some time now . . .actually about 4 years.

I love it . . . just haven't used it yet with the laptop, so for the time being, it's sitting on the desk gathering dust.

It's great not having to clean mouse balls . . .

I think I've got my decision down to 3 Logitech mice.

I looked into the Microsoft Cordless Optical 5000, which had a pretty good price, but the negative reviews for the scroll wheel & button and the poor range did it in for me.

Here's what I'm going to decide from: the MX518, about $35, the MX620, around $45, and the
                    G5, $46 for v1, $53 for v2.

I really want the G5 - only difference between v1 and v2 is an additional left thumb button, so probably the v1. It's going to depend on finances right now, which is why it's taken so long for me to update.

All I know is the sooner, the better. This small mouse is pretty good, but it's a pain for using for a long session.

Ooh - I love my Intellimouse Explorer 3. It's corded, but still a wonderful peice of equipment.

I have to say I've also become quite attached to using a Microsoft Basic Optical Mouse 1 on my laptop. It's cheap but quite good.
I think, therefore I am. But I am micromanaged, therefore I am not.

I've got the Logitech Corded MX518.

I've had it for about 3 years and I love it, it's fitted for my small hand (it's ok) and it has lots of cool little buttons i can program.

It just works. Tahts what I want: a workhouse mouse.

Yes, yes you do. Me being separated from my own G5 (v1) will require holding me down and cutting my right hand off at the wrist. It's perfect ergonomically, has excellent engineering, and it even has a set of 4.5g and 1.7g weights to fit into a removable ballast tray so you can get the heft and center of gravity exactly where you want it!

There's not much of a difference between the G5 and the MX518. One significant difference is that the G5 has adjustable weight, which may or may not be important to you, and the buttons near the scroll wheel. The MX518 has the increase sensitivity button at the top of the scroll wheel with a decrease sensitivity button and an application swap button at the bottom. They are nice to have, but the app swap button is so easy to depress that I hit it by accident on the rare occasion. The G5 has both the increase and decrease sensitivity buttons under the mouse wheel, and you might hit them accidentally. It's not a huge deal either way, just an annoyance if you are in the middle of something important in the game. Also, there is a decent price difference between the models. That's just a little fyi.

I have the MX518, and I'm perfectly happy with it.

I wish I could remember the name of it, but the last time I was at Best Buy, they had the most comfortable mouse ever! It fit my hand perfectly. Sigh.
