  • The buzzing! Make it stop! Or my wireless router hates speakers

Okay, so here's my desk setup.

I've replaced 2 pairs of speakers because of this buzzing sound like when a cell phone gets too close to your speakers.... regardless of where my cell was.

I was contemplating getting a new sound card when I figured my wireless router was causing the interference. I pull the power and the buzzing goes away.

Right now, I can't use my router because my Motorola modem for AT&T DSL doesn't like it (Suggestions for THAT would be great. EDIT: I think I found what I needed. ya, Google! EDIT2:THAT was easy. All I had to do was change my local IP from 1.1 to 2.1 CURSE YOU, WHOEVER!!!!).

But this interference thing..., what can I do? Do I just need to move the router ( ), pay good money for speakers, replace my sound card?

I have a Compaq Presario SR1130NX, and I'm using the onboard sound card.

    Help?

Unless you can get some very shielded speakers, I don't think that will help much. Probably the cheapest solution will be relocating the router, though I'm unsure how far you'll have to move it.

      j/k

      I'd move the router.

BTW, that looks just about like my desktop. With all the disks & junk around.....But mine's worse

I purposely cropped it while lining up the shot.

And, if you notice, my desk is covered in junk, but to the right of my computer, nearly empty dresser space! Consistancy is for wimps!

Wow, glad I'm not the only one to have a "Nest" situation going on around my computer.

As for the topic at hand: I'd say moving your router over to the clear space behind your 2nd monitor, or over to the dresser, would be plenty far enough to fix the distortion.

No, this is the result of no internet for a few months. If you want nesting, you see my computer at work. Which reminds me, I have to clean my desk today.

grab a couple ferrit cores and wrap the wires around them... that should fix the RFI problem
