  • SGI Indy

So my friend gave me a SGI (silicon graphics incorporated) Indy. He had it under his monitor and I always thought it looked cool and it didn't take up much space so when he didn't want it, I took it. Now I'm starting to wonder if I can do something with it other than just use it as something pretty to bring my monitor to a better hight. I know nothing about this computer at all other than what it's called. Is it too old to really do anything with it or try to see if it works? I've been told that it will turn on, but needs and SGI monitor, which neither of us have.

Any ideas or thoughts on what could be done with this machine or what it's capable of?

If you can put a pair of network cards in, you can turn it into a hardware firewall. Probably be about the only thing I can think of, apart from gutting it and using it as a storage locker.

I vote for gutting it and turning into a hidden storage device. Cut out the back, and hinge the face so you can drop up or down to slide devices in and out (like a gamepad, usb hub, blank DVD/CDs, and for those of us who are addicted, candy)
I've lost my mind ages ago. If you find it, please hide it.

Probably will go with the storage area idea. Probably just as well since I have enough computer projects as it is right now. Thanks for the help

Well, apparently you can run a specialized version of Linux on it. Beyond that, I dunno either. It would be fun to try though.
