  • Latest Windows Vista update?

Anyone had problems with this? I updated two nights ago, and yesterday morning lost connection. Regained it after perhaps half an hour and assumed that the local connection farted.

Last night, it happened twice - for GW players, I was on a hard mode three-man (plus hero) Urgoz run and was near the end. Galling.

Just wanting to rule out one potential thing, since it did have something in the systray about downloading updates on the first outage last night. Anyone heard anything?

First I've heard of it. I was WoW-ing for a couple of hours last night, and had no issues. I tend to keep my home Vista Machine up-to-date specifically so I can catch those sorts of issues before we roll out updates at the office for our few Vista users there.

For completeness, I did have one connection loss, but that coincided with the brownout that was caused by the thunderstorm that rolled through the area like a ricer with an open highway. Lots of noise and flash, but gone quickly.

No problems attributable to SP2. I've had issues with WoW atm but that's been confirmed as a login server issue.

If you were up to date with the regular patches you've got 85% of SP2 already.

My niece had problems with her wireless on her vista laptop after the latest patches, but I've not noticed much. Then again, I've not been on my desktop much this past week, with all that's been going on.

Rolling back the update didn't seem to help much. She is still going back and forth between "local access only" and "local and internet" access.

We rebooted our internet router once and it seemed to help, and changing her DNS settings to automatic seemed to help, but only for a while.

Vista has more issues than the NY Times! I've had to reinstall my OS a few times now...if it's over 6 mo's old, maybe you should save all your saveable stuff and do the same? fresh updates and whatnot...might help....

I just had my entire hard drive recovered to factory settings not quite two weeks ago.

Good part is it seems to be running slightly faster. Bad part is that for the better part of a week and a half, every time I boot up, Windows Update has a list of stuff it wants to install.

And it took me over 1 1/2 hours just to download and install SP1 just 2 nights ago. Hopefully the rest of the updates (for Silverlight, Live Essentials and a couple of others) won't be so bad now.

I've always maintained that if you have to reinstall the OS more than once a year, you're doing something wrong. I've been running Vista since it was released, and I've only had to reinstall it when I swapped motherboards in my desktop. My laptop's been fine since I got it about 2 years ago.

That said, if an update was corrupted, or a file downloaded wonky, or anything like that, it's probably fastest to just save everything and reinstall. If that's too much hassle, I'd check for new Ethernet drivers, new firmware for your router, that kind of thing.

There was an issue with an XP update about a year ago that conflicted with Zone Alarm causing intermittent or no connection at all. The only fix was to roll back the update or disable ZoneAlarm's firewall. It could be something similar to that. Would take some trial and error to figure it out.

What we are currently seeing as far as Vista is concerned is some USB and Express Card devices are no longer being recognized by Windows. Vista fails to recognize a valid driver. We haven't been able to pin point the specific update yet.

No problems on my end but I haven't been able to get onto WoW and stay on WoW for awhile now. And if I do get on I go very slowly.

Hate to tell you this, Aethian, but that sounds like a problem.

Seriously though, have you contacted your internet provider? Sounds like something is flaky in your connection. Online games use more bandwidth than surfing the net usually, so you might not notice issues using the net at other times.

Looks like it was my local ISP connection - seems fine now.

                        This thread love... http://www.customerssuck.com/board/s...ad.php?t=44714

I tried getting help for the problem but the help I was getting was going over my head and I wasn't getting responses when asking for additional information on HOW to perform some of the fixes.
