  • PSP to VGA or TV

I'm trying to find a way to play my PSP games on a Monitor or a TV... haven't been successful in finding a product that'll allow me to accomplish this. Any ideas?

Monitor has both VGA and DVI hookups.
I also have a separate adapter that'll allow SVideo to VGA.

    My thanks in advance!

This only works with the PSP 2000 and 3000, there's no way to get the 1st generation psp to a tv or monitor

Sony's own solution from the site:

      Reviews of various kits:

Surprisingly many options out there, though some require hardware bashing and voiding the warrenty. The Sony cable looks easiest.

        Okay' here's the deal:

        For sony's solution, You need:
        a) a series 2000 or 3000 PSP. The 1000 series doesn't have the capability. And
        b) the component cables already linked above. The Composite ones (the yellow, red, white) will NOT do video, only stills.

If you are not capable of either, then the ones linked by Geek King will work, but I have to say that neither of those are converting the signal. They are taking the display on your PSP and converting it to a signal on your TV. That said, any conversion is going to degrade the quality and there are a few conversions taking place. As well, you need a pristine PSP screen to use those, as any defects on the screen will show up on the big screen as well.

Yeah, they were selling PSPs to regions that weren't officially receiving them yet and Sony nailed them to the wall for it.

Seconded, but there is one MAJOR caveat, as LL said: Get the COMPONENT (RGB) cable, not the COMPOSITE (standard AV or S-video) ones.

The latter shows still images only, and it will not play games nor videos.

The one you want is the more expensive of the two (by five or ten bucks) if you see them in a store side-by-side. Not 100% sure, but you may need a HD-capable TV in order to use them. Check the packaging to be safe.

I have one of these, and I love it. The games will appear on the TV in higher resolution than on the system. You will get a sort of "letterbox" effect (a wide screen with a large amount of black fill around it; the image takes up maybe half of the screen), but you will still see just as much of the image as you do on the PSP itself. Also, the sound will be better simply because you're using real speakers instead of dinky portable-game system ones.

Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, for instance, is one of those games that shows a noticeable difference -- The sound is distinctly richer (I can hear the bass! holy crap!), and you can make out the individual "feathers" in Lenneth's wings when she uses Nibelung Valesti.

My only complaint is that the cables are rather short. Plug them into your Receiver or component splitter if you want to sit more than 2-3 feet from your TV.

Keep in mind that you will need to tell the PSP to use the Connected Display to make use of this, after you plug it in.

              In short...worth every penny.

...Hm...as long as we have people in the know here...Where can I get a Kit that will do the same for the DS...? I was not a portable gamer *at all* until the last year or so. Big hands + bad eyesight = portables BAD ^_^ I ended up getting a DS classic and a PSP 2k because there were just THAT many good games coming out for them. I know the tech exists for DS, as I've seen videos from E3 where they used it for Scribblenauts (another must-have). Any ideas on this one?

                a) no, you don't need an HD Television to use it. Any TV with the component connectors will work.

                b) I have not seen any projection system for a DS, simply because of the way the DS works. The bottom screen, being a touch screen, cannot project the tactile ability to a larger screen, even if it has that capability. Your best hope on that is if Nintendo decides to implement something into the Wii.

Well, I have no problem using the DS itself as the controller (this is what we have to do with the PSP in this setup anyway).

I was referring to the video from this year's E3, where they appear to be doing exactly that. The screen where the action is happening would be the touchscreen on an actual DS. I can't actually see the device itself, so they may be using a computer tablet or something.

PS, worth watching just to see Scribblenauts anyway. Brilliant little game.

That was most likely a custom setup specifically for E3 and not something you can buy. As well, the one doing the game play was actually using a DS, so you'd still need to look and use the tiny screen.

Either that or he was using a tablet display with a custom emulator. Either way, it's a lot of custom work that can get very expensive.

Yah, I figured that that might be the case (note that the touch screen was shown on the "wall", so you could look at that and not at the one you're touching if the game uses a cursor, with some practice). I figure a setup like this that is practical for home use has to come along eventually. The Wii would be the perfect interface, as it already has wireless support built in. No cables!
