  • WoW Joystick controls...

Anyone know how I would go about adding a joystick to WoW? what I want to do is have the joystic, mouse and keyboard functioning at once, with the JS being used to control movement of the character, and mouse/keyboard for clicking and stuff.

Is this possible, and if so, what would I need software wise aside from software for the joystick?

from what ive been seeing on the support channels for wow, its not a supported function. you might look into a gaming claw which would do a similar function...but not exactly like a controller.

      Gaming claw?

I really just want something that's not a mouse or button I have to hold down to run.

I just googled the claw. It just looks like a fancy mouse. I want something that I dont have to hold my fingers on while running around, hence a joystick (I can put the pressure on my palm instead of my fingers)

WoW doesn't have an "auto-run" button? That's odd. Check the keybindings to see if you can set one.

it does, but I dont WANt autorun. I want to still be able to control when I stop (that and I always screw up my autorun so suddenly I can't turn sideways, or the char keeps on running, or it zooms waaaaaay in and all that stuff). But I dont want to have to hold down mouse buttons while doing this all or hold down keys. I want to take pressure off my fingers but still control the char. Hence a joystick.

Then your only likely solution is a high-end joystick that comes with software that's able to incorporate macros to duplicate keyboard commands. Those are generally able to work independently of specific enabling inside a game. You're looking at about $100. Go to a dedicated computer shop (You're in Calgary, yes? Go to Memory Express.) and tell them what you're looking for. They'll point you at something useful. Do not go to a big box store. They will not be helpful.

Scroll down a bit and you will see a program called JoytoKey. Give that a try. I make no promises for WoW as I can't test it myself, but it might work.

Check the mouse properties via the control panel. In Vista there is setting under the Activities tab called ClickLock. The first click holds down the button, the second click releases it.

In the Ease of Access Center under the keyboard settings you can also use Sticky Keys to do the same thing for select keys on the keyboard.

Thanks Ironclad, but that's not gonna work. I still want to be able to control EXACTLy when I stop and start and stuff (see above post about the troubles I've had with 'cruise control' on or messing up my left-right controlling and steering), I just dont want to have to use my fingers. A joystick will let me use my wrist/palm instead (thus spreading the pressure over a larger area and giving my fingers a break) or even a foot.

In WoW if you press the num lock key, you'll autorun.

She's already said that that is not what she wants. She wants direct control over movement in such a way that requires constant input, only without using fingers.

                        Oops, misunderstood. Sorry.

Joy 2 Key may be the best.. or some other type of joystick/controller mapper.

I have a Saitek P2500 controller and it came with software that allowed me to redefine controls to keys.

I have a couple of those controllers spare.. send me a PM if you're interested.

                        Hope it helps..

Thanks. I'll see what there is locally first though and the prices, as I live in canada so shipping will be expensive. But I will keep it in mind

                          Ps - thanks broomjockey

had a request for something similar on another forum and Pinnacle Game Profiler was suggested. It's pretty robust and detects most known controllers. The catch is it's 20 dollars to buy. Still beats having to buy 100+ for a controller that will work though.

The P2500 is a LOT less than $100 US.
