  • Office Techs, I need Wardrobe Help!

Ok, I am going through pants left and right. I need to wear business attire. However I am having trouble finding pants that will stand up to moving computers around, crawling under desks and squeezing between racks in the server room.

I need something that is somewhat wrinkle and stain free, but tough enough to actually work in.

So what brand do you buy?

Go to the factory workwear places, tell them your problem. They will probably be able to provide you with suitably 'neutral' looking 'classic cut' pants in appropriately businesslike colours, which are of fabrics that hold up in a factory environment!

Don't go to the big retailers like K-mart or Target. They only carry the specific-to-factories range. If there's a factory outlet or a specialist workwear store anywhere near you, go there.
    Seshat's self-help guide:
    1. Would you rather be right, or get the result you want?
    2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
    3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
    4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.

      Business or Business Casual?

If it's business - it's SUIT SLACKS. But as Seshat said, they aren't likely to hold up. I'd personally look at what she's said, but keep an eye open on Dockers and such at Wally / Target/ Pennys. Dockers are good looking, stain resistant, and are cheap enough to grab 2 or 3 pairs.

What are you wearing NOW that's dying so easily?

What exactly are you doing? Can you have a Jeans Only day and get the labor shit done, and wear spiffy clothes the rest of the week?

Big Mac workwear from JC Penny's

Basically canvas pants that look like slacks.

Find a uniform shop. They make all sorts of different pants that look really nice but are super sturdy. You will pay a bit more for them... but it's worth it in the end.. or the knees where ever the problem is .

Another thing, if your job is causing that kind of pants-killing damage, see if your workplace will reimburse work-damaged clothing. I asked about it after ruining several pair of pants, and they agreed to it! Then we got buisness casual okayed, so even better.

If his dress code requires buisness or business casual, jeans of any color are a no-go. He might get away with it for a bit, but someone will notice the difference and complain. Nothing gets HR in a snit like someone wearing comfortable clothing.

Have you tried dedicated big & tall stores? I prefer Casual Male XL, but I'm sure there are others out there.

If you can be a bit casual, 5-11s(brand) would work. They are a brand of nice cargo type pants that almost look a bit more professional. A lot of the officers I work with wear them on the dress down days or for training.
