  • Google Chrome?

not sure if this would count as 'tech' or off topic or whatever so move if needed.

Just curious if anyone's tried/uses google's browser on a regular basis and if so if they like it. Currently using I.E. 8 and havne't had any major issues but i feel like it freezes up on me a bit too often for NO damn good reason. like sites I visit on a regular basis, daily or at least a few times a week, will work fine for a day or two and then just randomly freeze so i have to shut down the browser window again.

so figure I might try something different :P

Havn't used chrome, but have recently changed over to Firefox, because I got sick of IE8 crashing, and can recomend it as being more user friendly, only problem I encountered was Window kept trying to re-install IE8,but there a patch you can download to stop it,

i used it at times on my desktop

my mac was out of commission for a week (broken power cord, was waiting for the new one to arrive)

I specifically refused to use IE on the desktop and use Safari and Google Chrome instead.

Although I preferred safari, chrome wasn't bad.
the one thing I found weird was the look of the top bar ... it looked a bit like a blue folder with little tabs below it.

the thing i really liked about chrome though... youtube videos. sometimes i had to refresh the video to see it, but 90% of the time a little "download this" tab would appear above the video window.

as for things freezing up, if chrome (or firefox or safari etc) doesn't work... actually do this anyway... make sure your antivirus is up to date as well as your spyware.

oh and as a side note, on my desktop i was running XP. and i blocked IE from accessing the internet

yea i figure next week when im back from montreal i'll d/l firefox and/or chrome and see how i like em.

and yea i update my anti virus and my spyware at LEAST once a week. I do too much 'net surfing and downloading to NOT keep a good antivirus program/anti spyware program up to date

I've been seeing issues with web sites that are heavy with java scripting. Sometimes, the browser will fail to operate the script and i'll have to close and restart the browser. Otherwise, I haven't had any issues with Chrome.

I've used firefox for years myself and love it more and more each day.

As for Google Chrome, I've tried it when it was in beta, and while it was very good i think that in order to get the best usage out of the features you do have to spend a bit of time getting used to it.

I'll be honest, the one reason I still have firefox over any other browser is the addon Flashblocker. I LOVE the thing.

I may have to reinstall google chrome just to get that...

              Opera can do that.

I use SR Ware Iron, which is based on Chrome, but has a very nice adblock feature to it. It's everything nice about Chrome, but with a nice adblocker.

DarkForge - FF has addons for that, as well. I use one called DownloadHelper. Ain't perfect, but it does the job often enough. Besides, I have a policy -- If it's free, I don't really have the right to complain (loudly) ^_^

                    Opera can do that.
I can't find this picture with the Opera logo and the caption "Nice plugin. Watch me do the exact same thing with my Settings menu".

As far as I know, it is true, and yet haven't decided to switch over to Opera. Better the devil I know, I guess. And Firefox 3.5 isn't much of a devil.

Firefox is awesome, Chrome too! What I love about Chrome is how you can do a google search in the address bar. The best part of Google Chrome is incognito browsing. No way would I touch IE 8 with a ten foot pole! Shoot, you can uninstall IE 8 and it should downgrade you to IE 7, but why bother since IE is crappy to begin with.

Fairly certain you can do that in both Firefox and Opera, and I know IE8 has incognito browsing.

I don't know about Opera, but typing keywords in Firefox's adress bar is the equivalent of doing a "I feel lucky" search on Google, at least up to Firefox 3.0. In 3.5, it will try and match with history and bookmarks URLs, page titles and keywords. Failing that, I think it still does a "I feel lucky" search. Most of the time you have to use the search bar, which has been built-in ever since Firefox 2.0. Hitting Ctrl+K isn't that much of an effort...

IE8 indeed has a private browsing feature (with the nifty name of "inPrivate"), as well as Firefox 3.5. I think Chrome was the first to implement seach a feature, though. I also quite like the new "Delete my tracks" menu on Firefox 3.5, which not only lets you choose what you want to delete (cookies, history, saved passwords, etc.) but also lets you choose a time frame from which to delete (the past hour, today, the whole week or everything).

I think IE8 is fairly nice, as far as Internet Explorer is concerned. I don't see many benefits to upgrade from IE7 to IE8, but don't see much of a downside either.
