  • Stacking tv peripherals

I have very limited space in which to keep my tv/cable box/blue-ray(DVD) player/wii. Can the dvd player, cable box and wii be stacked or do they need room for ventilation.

If some of the stuff can be stacked, what can, in what can go on the top/bottom.

When the guy came to install the cable he had put the box on top of the tv, and I have had problems with it slipping from that position, falling back slightly to an angel where the remote didn't work that well.

Most equipment of that kind has short legs which keep the top and bottom plates of stacked units apart from each other. This usually allows enough ventilation, except possibly for big amplifiers, which shouldn't be put in a closed cabinet anyway.

Generally it dosn't matter which one goes on top, providing the ventilation is okay. Arrange them to suit cabling and remote-control requirements.

Amplifiers (which do need a lot of cooling) should be stacked only with proper hi-fi units that leave at least half an inch of clearance below them.

The key thing to look at is the ventilation holes in the units you're stacking. Make sure none of them are fully blocked.

Another thing to consider is the sizes of the peripherals. Take mine for example in the bedroom:

        27 inch tv

        vcr/dvd combo player

        Satellite receiver

My vcr/dvd combo unit is larger than my satellite receiver, so naturally the combo sits on top of the tv, and the receiver is on top of the combo unit.

As long as the ventilation holes are open and unblocked, you should be okay. And if you're concerned about dust accumulation, you can always keep a can of compressed air handy to blow out the holes.
