  • iPod trouble

So my Ipod routinely screws up every now and then, but this is different. When I plug it into my computer, all that appears is the Apple logo, and when I reset it, it'll blink off. I then try to turn it on and the logo appears again. Does anyone know what this means?

If it has a hard drive then it normally means that it has gone bad.

    Turn the sucker on

then hold down up and center until it resets

Once it resets hold down just the left button

This will be the special diagnostic mode

inside should be a couple of things you can do for testing I don't have mine available to walk you trough them. You can also factory default it from here and run a disk check.

Ok, tried that. It brought up the menu [music, genuis etc] and then blinked off.

I can't factory default because it doesn't show up in iTunes.

It's working now...but my Windows keeps asking if I want to scan and fix.

Try this, or try this if you keep getting the logo.

If you get the 'dead' logo, it's possible that the hard drive connector has come loose. Depending on what type of iPod you have, it's a simple matter of popping the cover off, refitting the connector, then putting it all back together. Also, if the drive *is* bad, don't get a replacement from the Apple store--they're annoyingly expensive. IIRC, the drive itself is a Toshiba part...which is about half the price of what Apple wants.

well, it's working now, sorta. still a bit afraid it'll just die on me. I was never able to find the diagnostic tool.

I also have a problem with my Ipod. It doesn't turn on, and rattles when you shake it.

I'm just waiting for enough money to get a new one...

I have an iPod shuffle that went wonky... don't know if this will help you but I found that rebooting the computer while it was plugged in solved my problems.
