  • Why does Firefox suck balls?

I've been having a problem with Mozilla Firefox. It pops up a box telling me an update is available, then can't do the update. Says the license file can't be found. This has been going on for a couple weeks now.

Then I try to do a full update--wait as the 10.7 mb update is downloaded to my computer (Praise the Lord I'm not on dial-up anymore)--get the same problem.

I did a quick search to see what the fix for this would be, and it seems the only way to update Firefox when this happens is to uninstall it and do a clean re-install. Umm, no. There's no reason why I should have to keep uninstalling and reinstalling every time Firefox comes out with an update, which is fairly frequently.

Le sigh...I used to love Firefox so much, now I just think it's a crashing, un-updateable mess. So I'll ask once again--does anybody have any opinions on Google Chrome or any other Web browsers other than IE?

several people in my EVE Online corp have praised Chrome, I am currently downloading it as i type ...

I was kinda forced into using it at first, but I've been happy with Safari for many years now.

Wow. I've never had any problems with Firefox, and I've been using it for years. As has my company. We're small enough that I know we've never had a problem updating any of the 30+ machines around the building.

I wonder if there's something wonky elsewhere that's resulted in a necessary file getting damaged/moved/renamed/something.

Although Chrome's unified location/search bar is kind of a notable turn-off for me. Couldn't tell you precisely why, but I want them to be separate entry fields.

thats an odd problem you've got with firefox, I've only ever once had to do a clean uninstall/reinstall in my several years of using it, and the updates just install themselves without problems. If you do a clean uninstall/reinstall that shoudl solve all your problems but if you do continue to have issues with updates then I'd switch browser.

Personally chrome is quite reliable, but I still prefer firefox over it as i like my add-ons.

I have had the same issue, and a full uninstall and re-install was my only fix for it. Luckily it saves all the bookmarks, etc. unless you tell it to let them go. Now I get to do the same with Filezilla. :P
