  • Printer Problems

Every time I go to print something one of my picture folders opens up and asks to save it as a .xps file. When I exit out of that it says an unknown error has occurred and cancels the print job. The printer is on with paper I've reset it and everything looks to be plugged in correctly. I have no idea of what to do now.

Check your printer settings in the computer to make sure it isn't set to "print to file".

^This. XPS is the Microsoft Document Writer extension. When you select to print, up at the top of the print window, it will ask what you are sending the print command to. Make sure that the printer is selected instead of Microsoft XPS Document Writer and make sure the "print to file" option (which will be close to the print destination option) is unchecked. If you do not have your printer listed in the options to print to, then it's not being recognized by your system and you will have to reinstall the drivers for it. If all checks out, you will be able to print the document you want.

And go into your printers option in the control panel and make sure your printer is the default. It will have a check mark over the icon. If it doesn't, right click the printer's icon and select "set as default printer". That should make sure your printer is the default choice whenever you choose to print.

XP: Go Start -> Printers and Faxes, right click on your printer, check "Set as default printer".

7: Start -> Devices and Printers, right click on your printer, check "Set as default printer".

Don't know Vista... someone else wanna fill it in?

        That should solve your problem.

It's been a bit since I installed my printer, but I believe Vista is:

Start Menu-->Control Panel-->Printers-->Find the printer you want, right click on your printer, and select "Set as default printer"

Thanks everyone! I had to select my printer but it was still saving so I reinstalled it and it seems to have taken care of it!
