  • Haunted Phone?

Okay I have an LG Rumor cell phone. I know it's at least a year old, maybe 2. I'm not the type to get rid of something that still works, so I've held onto it for a while. I'm thinking it's time to get a new phone though.

Here's my problem. Almost every night for the past 6 months or so, I get phantom voicemail. At exactly 3:33 AM my phone will make the "Voicemail Received" sound. I did some research when this first started, and I know that there's a way to call a phone and go right to voicemail. The problem is, when I go to check my voicemail, the phone display will say I have a voicemail, but when I go to listen to it, nothing's there.

It wakes both me and hubby up, and then we're all tired the next day because our sleep was interrupted. I'm really tempted to turn off my phone at night, but I use it as my alarm clock.

Any ideas? Should I just get a new phone? Or should I call a priest? I've been googling "waking up at 3:33 am" and it's kinda scary

EDIT: Also since it's possibly a spiritual thing, mods feel free to move.

ok.....this almost reminds me of the movie One Missed Call.

    That is pretty freaky.

And how do you call a phone and go right to voicemail?

There's some code you put in after the number I think, I hear telemarketers use it a lot when they call cell phones. Something about that people always check voicemail and then they'll actually listen to the spiel? I dunno.

All the google-fu I have told me that it's something spiritual, which is kinda freaky.

Many phone's alarm clocks will work even if the phone is turned off. You could test if your phone is one of them.

Jay, no scaring me! I'm already a nervous wreck. >.>

I'm seeing if it happens again tonight and then I'm gonna start keeping my phone turned off at night.

Does your caller ID show the number calling? It might be something like an automated fax machine that hangs up when it does get another fax machine.

You can switch on the phone's Airplane Mode (LG Rumor manual, page 41) at bedtime. You'll probably still get the phantom voicemail, but it won't be waking you up at 3:33 a.m.

I use the Airplane Mode on my phone to play ad-supported games. That way the ads never appear.

Ironclad: No the phone doesn't ring at all, and it shows no record of a call. Just the "Voicemail Received: 3:33am" message on the display.

I totally forgot about airplane mode, thank you so much!

Try calling yourself and leaving a voicemail, then receiving and deleting it.

Sounds like the phones auto update to carrier command is not working correctly. Its returning garbage data an the phone interprets it however it can. In this case as a voice mail notification. this is generally caused by a corrupted rom. Restoring the phone to factory should fix the issue.
