I've thought of myself as kind of skilled in computer stuff...I guess not now. I'm having problems with the installer for Star Trek Armada II. Problems like I can't get the install screen to open. I click install and the thing just hangs in the task manager. Is there a fix for this?

I simply went to Google and typed "Star Trek II installer" and found a patch here:
http://armada2.filefront.com/file/St...ject_EXE;85981
The above link isn't a direct download but rather takes you to the page of the download. You can Google the above yourself and find the same link (2nd down from the top).

On the initial setup icon, which should be "setup.exe" or "installer.exe", right-click on that. There should be one of the tabs with a checkbox for "compatibility mode". Check it for Win95, close it, try it. If that doesn't work, try another compatibility mode, close it, try it, and repeat.

Quoth ThanosIsKing View PostThis doesn't help, unfortunately. I can't even get the base game to install. Like I said, I try to run setup but it hangs in the task manager. There's no progress on installing the game at all. It doesn't even start. There Can Be Only One

I take it you're not going through a splash screen with those "Install" "Readme" "Exit" stuff, right? You're going into the D: or E: (Whichever the DVD Drive is) drive and trying to open setup.exe directly?
Yeah, I'd also check out a compatibility mode in that case. Very strange. But do check out that link from emax4. Looks promising.
Damn this post is useless.SC: "Are you new or something?"
Me: "Yes. Your planet is very backwards I hope you realize."

Have you tried running the setup.exe (or similar) with Administrator privileges?
I know some programs require you doing that (even thoughyou might be logged in with an account with Admin rights).
Right-click on the setup.exe -> Run as... / Run as administrator
