  • Improving a sound recording?

I recorded the sound for the video I just finally finished, but my friend wants it louder and with less background noise (and I ALREADY reduced the background noise in the recording program). What's the best way to do this?

Audacity. Use the Noise Removal Effect.

I already did that. It was recorded on Audacity, with (I know, I know) a headset microphone. I used the Noise Reduction feature, which was a huge help, but he wants even further noise reduction, and the sound is rather quiet.

You can also amplify the sound by checking the box marked "allow clipping." You can then do more noise removal--but I don't recommend it because it will sound tinny.

Headset mics are okay, as long as you use one with an audio jack rather than a USB.

Yes, that's the kind I used. Does anyone know if Windows Movie Maker saves in HD format?

I increased the volume - which increased the background noise. I can save it in HD format, I discovered.

            Onward and upward.

I use WavePad Sound Editor...the trial version lets you do quite a few things and it amplifies sounds quite nicely. It also reduces background noise, adds echoes, and a bunch of other stuff.

No clue where I got it, but since it's a free trial that never expires, I'm sure it's floating around somewhere on Google.
