  • Password protected Excel file

    I have 'inherited' a password protected Excel file at work that contains unique data that I have been asked to extract.

    Of course, no one has the password nor can we get it from the person who made the file.

    Does anyone have a trustworthy way to crack Windows password protected files? I personally haven't found any that I would trust, and this falls way outside my realm of hardware break/fix and OS installs.

    Thanks.

    I've used this once or twice... http://www.lostpassword.com/ Also 0phcrack, I'm not sure if that's for OS passwords only or if you can refine it.

    FTK (AccessData) has a password cracking tool as well (although I THINK it only works with the imager; not certain on that). Some of their software can be a bit cranky when it comes to version numbers playing nice with specific hardware though.

      Do you know which version of Excel it was created in?

        @Dreamstalker - Thanks, I'll check those out.

        @Imprl59 - It was created in MS Office 2003
