  • WTH, Safari?!

Mac Intel laptop (1st gen black), OSX 10.4 (need to upgrade memory and fix disk drive so we can get it fully up-to-date), using Safari, v 4.1.3.

I've been using Safari for the past year. It's a convenient way of splitting the browsers between Husband and myself (he uses Firefox) on a shared laptop. Chrome doesn't work on 10.4.

Just yesterday, I went to log into gmail, and got an error that the connection had been dropped. I futzed around a bit, didn't see any trouble, reset Safari, and tried again.

    Still no dice.

Went over to Firefox and loaded it there, no problem.

Today, Husband sent me a link in Gmail (still open in FF). I tried to open it in Safari, and got the same error. I realized, the link was an httpS... as is Gmail.

For some reason, Safari is dropping the connections to secure sites. Any ideas?

There's been a couple of security updates for Safari recently, maybe they're having an impact?

That's what I figured... except I have to update Safari manually, and I haven't done so.

It's apparently *all* secure sites. Though I got an odd error message this morning - when I'm home, I'll see if I can recreate and post it.

I think it's something to do with how secure sites work, which is why they had to push the update originally... I dunno, I just use the things

There was a major SSL fix that all browser writers had to push out a while back. It's possible that your version of Safari might not be handling it very well.

Can you get/use Chrome for Mac? I'd recommend it anyway
