  • BSoD - Happened twice so far

    OK, so here's my problem:

I recently got a new comp, as my old one had it's internet connectivity taken out by this Super AntiSpyware program, which now, I don't even know WHY I installed it in the first place>.<. So far, though, with the new system, most everything has gone down pretty smoothly, save for one thing.

I'm able to install WoW just fine, and run the Launcher, but halfway into the download process, I get this BSoD, which says there's a problem with a file called "WLANUHN.SYS". Being the technical kind of guy that I am, I did some research into this, and this is what I have found out so far:

That file, while there IS a virus variant of it, is related to my wireless USB adapter. MalwareBytes has not picked that up as a virus, though, so I'm not too concerned about it.

Some technical info regarding my system

Model: Gateway GT420e with Windows XP (I recently updated to Service Pack 3)
Wireless Adapter: Qwest Wireless-11N USB adapter

I have updated most all of the hardware drivers that needed updating, with the exception of that wireless adapter (Windows can't find any updates for it, and doing a manual search hasn't given me any better luck). The thing worked fine on my old computer, but I'm just wondering if now is the time to upgrade, or if I should go wired (which I really don't want to do unless I have no other choice)

I tried looking up "Gateway GT420e" but didn't find an exact model match. I looked up similar results and found "Gateway DX4850 desktop series". Is that it?

Is the wireless device a card or a USB thingy? Chances are that it's a card, which can be removed once you open up the case. If you can do that, maybe just look on eBay for a cheapie $10 USB wireless dongle and use that instead.

Actually, emax, it IS a GT420e (says it right on the sticker on the back). If you go to Gateway's support website, they have that model listed on there

And yes, the adapter I have is a strictly USB device, which means the drivers are already on there. Someone on another forum suggested I go with the Actiontec wireless USB adapter, which I'm thinking I may have to do

If it is only happening with WOW and you still have your previous HDD and are able to search it out, you can pull the entire WOW folder from the old drive and stick it on your new one. I have a copy on my current drive, backup drive and an external. You can also play the game off an external drive if needed.

If you're getting a blue screen on the driver you probably need to update the driver. Otherwise I would guess that the usbe adapter is failing.
