  • Restore disc options?

I'm looking to be able to create restore discs (meaning if the user completely f-s up their system then they can throw in disc (or disc#1) and wipe the system and start from scratch.

I know there is Norton Ghost but it is expensive (sadly).

If you have Windows 7, use the built-in backup. This can be restored by booting the install disc, and using the restore option from there.

      XP.

I see old copies of Ghost on Amazon for around $30 - I'm debating if I should get one.

If it is a major brand of computer that once came with restore disks, you could look into ordering a new set. If the manufacturer doesn't have them anymore, you could try places like RestoreDisks.com (HP pointed me to them when I was looking for a set that they didn't have anymore.) The HP disks I have ordered were in the $25-30 range from both HP and other sources.

The issue with those is that they're outdated - severely (especially for this computer). I don't mind loading XP and then the subsequent patches and service packs as well as most current drivers as well as some additional software (Chrome, AdAware, SpyBot etc.).
