Some older guys have never learned how to prepare food, as they were raised in an age or culture where the wife or mother did everything. I've even read about widowers starving to death because their late wives used to do all the cooking and they never learned how to even make a bowl of cereal. I'm guessing this guy is one of those, doesn't know or care how the food is prepared as long as it is.
