Aww. I used to have a GSD too and he would stare at us soulfully during dinner time. Just STARING and STARING sadly w/o a blink. My mom would order him back to his den and he'd go, but look over his shoulder like we were the most horrible people for banishing him. LOL RIP in doggy heaven where you get lots of foods.
Our friends always used to say our dogs were already in doggie heaven; heck, one said he wanted to be reincarnated as one of our dogs! When ever we had a BBQ each dog would get their own unseasoned rare-cooked steak (yes, we got seasoned steak, before you ask). They would then turn their noses up when we offered them left-over sausages or burgers at the end.*

The dogs certainly got away with more than me and my sister ever managed to! Let me put it this way; if me or my sister ever nicked anything off of the other's plate we'd get a rap across the back of the hand and/or a grounding from whatever we wanted to do after dinner, depending on the amount of yelling before mum intervened. If the dogs managed to get anything off someone's plate, they'd get a scolding and sent away from the table, only to be let back when mum couldn't bear the pathetic whining and sad looks (not very long at all).

    * Greek-descent mum and Italian-descent stepdad; there was always too much food!

My cat Fizzgig likes a lot of treats that I keep getting told cat's aren't supposed to like, since they can't taste sweet. One of those is almond milk. He'll sit on the table waiting patiently for me to finish my cereal, then meow plaintively until I give him a teaspoon of almond milk. If I'm not finishing my cereal fast enough, he'll paw at my hand or the bowl until I'm done.

My older cat, Pixxy, will start asking for dinner several hours before it's time. She'll sit on the tv stand and just stare at us. If we get up, or just seem to, she'll run into the kitchen, meowing.

I used to have a cat, Phydeaux, who would sit up like a rabbit to beg for popcorn. We'd throw a piece at him and he'd grab it out of the air and eat in, then beg for more.
"I look at the stars. It's a clear night and the Milky Way seems so near. That's where I'll be going soon. "We are all star stuff." I suddenly remember Delenn's line from Joe's script. Not a bad prospect. I am not afraid. In the meantime, let me close my eyes and sense the beauty around me. And take that breath under the dark sky full of stars. Breathe in. Breathe out. That's all."
