    Carly's Strawberry Honey Blonde

Somewhere between golden and amber. Minimal head. Nose has a strong strawberry influence.

Taste: there is a competition between the straberry and honey. Both are good. Strawberry does win, but by ba nose.it is a very sweet beer. I am not a fan of a lot of sweetness, but this works. I will enjoy drinking my last beer slowly (unless I decide to go to the Spilled Grain Grand Opening party on my way home).
    7 out of 10.

Edit, don't bother trying to get this beer, the firkin is almost gone. the bartender really had to tip it to get mine and the next one after.

I'm sure Jester would thumb his Good Gourd at me.
Amusing that you would mention the Good Gourd. For those not familiar with it, Cigar City's Good Gourd is, in my personal opinion, the best pumpkin beer ever made. It is, in most beer afficionados' opinions, one of the best pumpkin beers ever made. And it is one of those beers that liquor stores, at least in Key West, put a limit on for how many each customer can buy. Last year and this year, that limit seems to be one per customer. (Which is why I employ my non-beer drinking friends to get me more. I'm a sneaky little shit.)

In any case, last night, after we got back from getting soaked by a rainstorm at Universal, the girl and I split a bomber of Good Gourd. She was very impressed with it. And then we went drinking. This one may well be a keeper.

      • mary porter & “what's the deal with that” from Oliphant Brewing is my choice tonight. It is a rye whiskey barrel aged gaer bear baltic porter. It clocks in at 8.5% ABV.

Pitch black. Nice dark head. The nose reqlly has the whiskey barrel smell to it.

Now to the taste - Oh, boy. It is very strong. Very strong. You really get the complex flavors of the barrel. Very nice. I am glad I decided to wait till I got home from the brewery to try this, because it does pack a punch.

        • Well, it looks like I'm going to Iowa this weekend, so I need to clear out some space in my fridge.

          Here's my start

Wheat Stone Bridge from Tin Whiskers Brewing [ 5.4% ABV

very light golden color. A bit of head. The nose is nice and wheaty.

Taste - There is a slight hint of wheat. There's some citrus also. However, the flavors aren't very pronounced. It is a fairly bland beer. Now if it was a 90 degree day, this would be perfect. It wasn't that hot today, but it'll do.

          • I'm having a Michelob Ultra. Hey, don't judge me. I just drove across Florida after having spent a hell of a vacation with a wonderful woman and having seen my first rocket launch this very morning, also with said wonderful woman.

I got home, and the only other cold beers in my fridge were big bombers or high alcohol beers, and frankly, I'm tired. Only having the Ultra because I just unloaded my truck (and of course, the various beers I bought on the mainland) and, as I said, I'm tired. And cranky.

As for why the Ultra was in my fridge in the first place, two of them were left behind from my roommate's family's trip down here a few weeks ago, and he stuck them in the fridge. And yes, it is as awful as you would think, but it's cold, I'm tired, and fuck it, I'll drink it.

Dark brown, minimal head, no nose.

Taste : this is a nut brown ale. Not a fan of them. It is a bit too sweet for me. If you like the style, you will probably like it.

                • Cornucopia from Peace Tree Brewing

Light golden colored. Minimal head. The nose smells like corn. Considering it's made from corn, it makes sense.

Taste - Not bad. It's got some sweetness to it. Slight hint of hops. It has some hints of a wheat beer. Honestly, a perfect beer for the long day at work I had.

Tomorrow a report from the Backpocket Brewery in Coralville, Iowa. Possibly some also Sunday from the Confluence and 515 Breweries.

Goldnen colored. thick head. no nose.

Taste: fairly light. somewhat of a crisp taste, best word to describe it. Good choice after a stupid long day.

This one has an amber hue to it. minimal head. nose is almost fruity? strange.

Taste:interesting. it has a flavor I really can't pin down. it really doesn't taste like any Marzen I've ever had.I don't know what to say about it beyond that. I do like what I'm drinking , though.

                            • At home, and exhausted. It got up to 95 in Ames, Iowa when I was there. I just put away my substantial beer horde that I picked up over the past few days. I didn't intend to get so much, but I found tons of new stuff, including a bottle of mead, along with some old favorites (Olde Main Sodbuster, and Backpocket Raygun {YES!!!!!!!!}). I can't wait to review these beers in the next few weeks.

I also got some Christmas shopping done for my sister. She loves dry red wines. So I got a couple of bottles of Iowa wine for her. I hope she likes them.

Now relaxed, and time for a review. This beer will be #320 for the year.

Jalapeno Pepper Ale from Bent River brewing out of Rock Island, Il. 4.8% ABV and 20.4 IBU.

I've had a mixed history with spicy beers. I know Jester will strongly disagree with me over the Cave Creek Chili beer (and we've talked about it). I though it as undrinkable. He loves it. Lately I've found some ones I've liked. So here goes with this.

Amber colored with a thick head, that dissipates rapidly. The nose is strongly spicy. It is like a jalapeno pepper, which makes sense given the name.

Taste: It's spicy. It hits stronger in the aftertaste. Now, if you don't like spicy - STAY AWAY FROM THIS BEER. I like spicy. Not necessarily with alcohol, but this beer does work for me.
