  • Tyranena down And Dirty Chocolate Oatmeal Stout.

It's in the bottle so no idea on head, or color, but would guess dark. nose is chocolatey.

Taste- oh, yeah. chocolate, malts. delicious. perfect beer to finish, well I will likely have one when I get home.

I was a naughty boy, and got $80 worth of beer today at the Kinney Creek Brewer and in La Crosse. lots of stuff I'venever had before (besides the New Glarus Staghorn and Scream IIPA). I can't wait to diginto them.

    • Now that I am home, one more beer, or 2.

Silurian Stout from Door County Brewing

      This is a milk stout.

Pours like motor oil, and has a thick head. Pitch black. There is no nose.

Taste : damn. I get hints the last beer. Not surprising since they are similar styles. There is a bit less malts than thelast one, but still plenty. Damn, this is good.

probably a good thing they only made a firkin of it.
Okay, I give up. What the hell's a firkin? Never heard of it.

A firkin is a small keg. I think around 5 or 10 gallons.

          • Tallgrass Buffalo Sweat.

Never had this before, and I'm getting a 25oz of it.

Since it's in my stein, can't give you a color, but would wager it's dark based on the frothy, darkish head. Not too much nose to it.

Taste: well, this really continues like the last 2 I've reviewed. it has some hints of chocolate. some sweetness to it. fairly delicious for waiting for the Vikings game to start, wearing my #4 shirt (that really annoys the Packer fans)

            • Ok, this will be a very unique review. I was at the Backpocket Brewery a week and a half ago, and got two growlers. I didn't write down the names of them. All I remember is one was a Belgian Double. That's all, except the bartender put, what appears to be the letters FL on one growler. That's the one I'm going to review.

Golden in color, with minimal head. Not much nose to it.

Taste : very sweet. This is not the double. Almost too sweet for me, and I still have a growler of it. I might have to try sharing it with others to get rid of it.

              2.5 out of 10.

I might call the brewery, andget the name from them, when I have some free time.

              • Kinney Creek Vixen - 4.8% ABV

Nice dark red color, and a very thick head. The nose is fairly typical of a red.

Taste - Ok, but not impressive. There is a bit of hops in it. Some bitterness.

                • Live beer review from a bar!

Specifically from one of my favorite craft beer bars in Key West, The Porch. (Yes, that's it's real name. If you ever get to KW, hit the Porch for great beer and great times.) The beer in question is from Coppertail Brewing in Tampa, and is Night Swim Porter (6.2% ABV).

The color is very dark, either full on black or, more likely, very dark brown. (Lighting here is not optimal for such things.) The nose is rich, malty, balanced, with hints of chocolate. Very promising. The taste is everyone the nose promised: rich, malty, balanced and restrained, hints of chocolate, subtle suggestion of coffee, especially in the slightly but appropriately bitter aftertaste. Not much brown sugar in it, but while that's a common component of porters, it's not required. Overall, I'd say this is a very good porter. Score: 7.0.

                  • I can also, highly, recommend the Porch. I had so much fun there.

Not a review, but I just did inventory of my beer collection. I was thinking I only had 150-160.

                    186!

                    And 7 growlers/howlers.

Yeah, I need to reduce my inventory.

                    • Vic texted me that number last night, and of course, that forced me to inventory my own stash. Which came out to 249....247 now, but 249 at the time. Sadly, the vast majority of those are ones I've already had this year, so my ability to drink new beers to add to my year's total is getting tougher. At the moment, I am able to move forward mostly because of various bars around town getting in new beera here and there, as I crawl towards 700 for the year. I do believe I will pass 800, but don't know that I will hit my goal of 1,000 in a year. But I will be continuing to track my progress past the end of the year, just to see how long it takes me to drink 1,000 different beers. That is actually what the third person who joined Vic and I on this quest is doing: seeing how long it takes him to drink 1,000 different beers. He lost interest in trying to down that many in one year, which is a bit of a shame, as that boy can flat out drink. Either way, though, noble goals.

                      • I am back up to 186, after drinking one last night.

I also found out what's in the growlers I got.

Flower Eater Belgian Tripel is what I've already had. I had such high hopes for that one, but am so disappointed. Working on trying to finish it off.

The other growler is Centripetal Force Belgo-Iowan Ale.

                        There, now I won't forget.

                          Thistle Smoky Scottish

Pitch black, with a moderate head. The nose has hints of smoke.

Taste - Wow! WOW! The smoke doesn't hit you right away. It tastes like a standard Scottish, but then the smoke hits you, and it hits hard, but good.

                          Yes, great beer.

                          • D.T.B. Brown Ale from Pearl Street Brewing

Brown colored, with a fairly thick head. Slightly sweet nose.

Taste - Not as much sweetness in the taste. There really isn't much flavor to this beer, very bland. Not impressed, to be honest.

Holy head! Golden colored. Citrusy nose.

Taste - Very citrus flavor. Not much of a hop bite, though. Very interesting beer.

Murky golden in color. Minimal head. Nose is minimal.

Taste - Light, somewhat citrus. Very refreshing for a final beer.
