  • Well a long day at work, so time to finish off the mini tour.

    Kona Castaway IPA.

There is a decent head when poured, and dark golden in color. it's got a really nice nose that makes me love IPAs.

Taste - not as bitter as a lot of IPAs, but is still really good to me. Yeah, I like it, and will give it a 6.5.

    • I will continue on to the next one.

      Third Street Hunny Do Wheat

Light golden in color, almost white. The nose is almost floral.

Taste, well, it's not too impressive, to be honest. It's somewhat bland. I will give it a 3.5.

      • Final one tonight.

Third Street Rise To The Top Cream Ale.

Color, again golden, but a clear golden. I really notice no nose.

Taste - sadly, this one also doesn't have much in the flavor department, but what's there is better than the Hunny Do. I will give it a 4.

With that I finish the Extra Innings Mini Tour. I must say, that it was a fairly unimpressive one. I won't be doing it again. I also will have finished, with this beer, beer #52 on my tenth tour. I only 58 to go to the VIP card, and engraved stein.

There is a nose, but I can't finger it..
Keep trying - you'll get those boogers eventually.

Ok, time to cut me off. I tried to post, but deleted me post.
            Ok, you're cut off.

Hey, I'm a bartender. I can do that.

To the SASA and AO combo. It's made wit AO on the bottom and SASA on top.
When I made it for the gentleman at my bar, I made no attempt to layer it, and he was fine with it, to the point that I'm guessing that, for him at least, the non-layered version is standard.

            Bell's Oberon Ale.
            Color is golden, again
            Nose, none, really
Taste is like the nose, none really. just not much flavor to me. I'll give it a 4.
I'm going to respectfully disagree with my friend Vic here when it comes to Bell's Oberon. The style is a Belgian Wit, along the lines of Blue Moon or Shock Top, but for me, the Oberon is far superior to either of those. I can drink the Oberon all day, and on some occasions, I have. A 4? Nay. For me, the Oberon is closer to a 6.5 or 7.

And that's one of the many great things about beer. What may be not so great for you may well be wonderful for someone else.

            • Well we do have similar taste in beer, but we diverge in places (IPAs are a perfect example).

              Now to my review tonight.
And to be honest this is beer #5 today, but I've reviewed the others already. Since this is beer #55 on the tour, I wanted it to be special.

              Svyturys Baltijos from Lithuania.
To start off, it's an unfiltered beer. when Brandon my bartender tonight poured it it, he went through a ritual when pouring it. he filed up the glass 1/3 of the way up and then rolled the bottle, to mix in the stuff on the bottom, the poured some more, rolled the bottle some more and poured again.

              now to the beer.

It's a mirky golden color. the nose is a pleasin sweet smell. to the taste.

Wooooooooo. this is good. in a way it really reminds me of the Banana Bread beer (an aside to Jester - i did find it at my local liquor store last night). it has a very nice sweetness to it, and even though I am (like my personality) a more bitter lover, it is so good. I will give it an 8.

Yes we do, which is why I would say we have similar taste in SOME beers.

This is actually a common ritual for hefeweizens and other unfiltered beers. They didn't do it for me when I had this beer, but then, I had it at a creperie in town, not at a beer bar, so I can't fault them for it.

I don't get any banana bread out of it, and I didn't find any similarity to Banana Bread Beer. Here are my exact notes on it:

"Hazy pinkish red color. Subtle rich, fresh nose, slightly sweet. Delicious! A bit sweet, a bit malty, can definitely taste the caramel malts. A great red! 7.5."

Still not sure why you saw gold where I saw pink. Weird.

                • We're close in in the general rating of the beer, but it, to me looks a lot closet to mirky golden than pink. all I can say is it's a really good beer, and if you can get it, try it.

                  • Agreed on that point. It is a damn good beer.

Speaking of beer, it's time for the 7th of the 8 beers Mr. Victory Sabre sent me. From Tyranena Brewing Company in Wisconsin, it's Rocky's Revenge, an American brown ale with a portion of it aged in bourbon barrels (5.7% ABV). The color is a medium brown with hints of ruby red, especially when held up to the light. The nose is classic brown ale, smooth as a baby's bottom and reminiscent of cocoa and brown sugar. The taste is also classic brown. Utterly delicious, smooth, with flavors of brown sugar, cocoa, malt, and just utter wonderfulness. It was rated very highly on ratebeer.com, and I can't argue with them. If you like browns and you can get this beer, do so. It rocks. Score: 8.0.

Oh good! One new to me. I suddenly feel the need to visit friends down in Watertown.

btw, did you notice any hint of the barrel in the taste?

                        • Was out at a local bar the other day, and they had Angry Orchard on tap. So I asked the bartender for one, and he suggested I try it with a shot of Fireball in it, to give it some kick... He was right. The Fireball makes the whole glass taste like a red-hot candy, and really goes down smooth. AO is good by itself, the Fireball just makes it better.

Since I don't know if I might have missed it somewhere in the last 25 pages, has anyone out there tried the stuff from Redd's? I tried both the Apple Ale and the Strawberry Ale. The Apple was tasty, and had a good flavor to it, but the Strawberry just tasted like apple with a barely-there overtone of strawberry.
                          Dealer hits... 21. Table loses.

This happens more often than most people want to believe.

                          • I've tried Redds, but I'm just not a big apple ale person, so I didn't like it much. I've also tried the New Glarus Apple Ale, and the same result.

It's called an Angry Ball, or Angry Balls, depending on who you ask. I'd always heard it called an Angry Ball, and then a guy at my bar ordered Angry Balls. Figuring it was the same thing, but curious, I asked him about it. His version of Angry Balls was TWO shots of Fireball in the Angry Orchard, thus the plural form. Which is one hell of an angry drink! Although I have heard people order the single version as "Angry Balls."

For me, the shot of Fireball in it is the only thing that ever makes Angry Orchard palatable. I'm not a huge cider person in general, but I really don't care for the Orchard on its own.

                              • The 8th and final beer that Vic sent me.

From Backpocket Brewing in Iowa, it's Slingshot Dunkel (5.3% ABV). Whereas most Dunkels are a brownish color, Slingshot is a dark reddish orange. Emphasis on the red. Interesting. Sweet but subtle and pleasant nose. Tastes like no Dunkel I've ever had. Tastes more like an oddly hoppy red. It's....weird. Not in a good way. It's drinkable, but very, very strange. Not just strange for a Dunkel, for which it fails miserably, despite its claim on the label to be brewed in accordance with the German Beer Purity Laws, but strange for a beer, period. As for Dunkel, there is nothing German about this beer. This beer is just strange. Strange can be good, but in this case, I'm afraid it's just strange. At least it's not disgusting. And that is about the best I can say about this beer. The brewery should have kept this in their back pocket. Just an odd, weird, bizarre beer. And not all that good. Because I can drink it down, I'll be nice and give it a 3.5, and wonder if these people learned their brewing by reading from a poorly written instruction manual. In the dark.

                                Dunkel my ass.
