As I've grown older, my palate has moved from really liking sweet things toward more sour and bitter. I had a Mikes not too long before, and didn't like it then, either. My taste has changed. I know she liked the Mikes a lot. Too bad she doesn't like beer.

Beer Camp time.

Alt Route Altbier produced with the Victory Brewing Company.

It's a darker beer. I would liken the color to a cola, but a bit lighter. Minimal nose.

Taste. First taste I get a hint of sweetness to it. Second sip I get the malt and the hopps. I'm not sure how to describe the flavor. I'm not sure I like it much, and afraid I can only give it a 4 out of 10. I hope this is the worst one.

Heineken
golden in color. Somewhat of a skunky nose. Taste. Skunky. I can drink it, but do not like it. not a surprise, I've had it before with similar results. 3 out of 10

Liftbridge
Amber colored. There's a somewhat sweet nose to it. Taste: it is hoppy for sure. I can also get a hint of citrus in it. it is a very drinkable beer for me, who likes hoppy flavor. 6.5 out of 10

Sodbuster.
If this is anything like the Olde Main Sodbuster I'm in for a treat (as Jester knows). It is black as Gravekeeper's heart after dealing with the weirdos in Nunavut. the nose is very amazing. it smells like chocolate. taste: damn, it is very similar to the Olde Main Sodbuster. wow, amazing. very well balanced beer. 8 out of 10

Fulton
Like the Liftbridge, it is amber colored, just a shade lighter. I get a citrusy, hoppy nose, that I like. Taste: the first swig I get a lot of citrus, then the hopps follow. not as amped up as many IPAs, but a very good beer. 7 out of 10.

There's my beer reviews for the night. the best part is they were free. one of the staff paid for the beers in the sampler, but didn't drink them. since she's a newlywed is there a bun in the oven?

Regarding Heineken: me least favorite mass-produced beer. I loathe this stuff. How much? Let's put it this way: not only would I rather drink Mich Ultra or Coors Light, I'd rather drinking either or both of them for a solid week than have a single Heineken. Foul, disgusting stuff. The standard by which I judge all bad beer.

No argument there. It was truly a foul beer. The only silver lining is it was free to me. I would never order it unless I needed it to finish a mini tour, like last night. Labatt's, and Molson are in the same category for me.

I actually rather like Labatt's Blue. Not a big fan of Molson Golden, though I wouldn't put it in the same category trash heap as Heineken. I AM a big fan of Molson Ice.

Third Street Jacked Up.

It's a cloudy amber colored beer, with a decent head when poured that stays for a while. No nose to speak of.

Taste: ooooooooo, spices. Lots of spices. Wow! It's like a pumpkin pie in a bottle, and one hell of a good one at it. Damn, I'm going to have to get a 6 pack of this tomorrow after work. 8.5 out of 10. Get this beer if you can.

Vic, I keep forgetting to send you that six pack of Maduro. I'm gonna get on it this month, but I was hoping you could find it somewhere in your liver to send me a can or three of that Third Street Jacked Up. Sounds like my kind of beer.

And yes, I will send you something else with the Maduro.

But because I am really horrible at procrastination (or is it that I'm really good at it?) don't send the a Third till you actually get my package. Just kinda put it aside for me. Because I'm pretty sure I've never seen it down here.

I will do so. I was so blown away with the Jacked up last night, Just wow. And, yes, my mouth is watering at the thought of Cigar City beer.

Horny Goat HornyCopia Pumpkin Ale

Color: well, for a better word, pumpkin.

Nose: smells like pumpkin pie spices in the nose.

Taste: oh, boy! Like the Jacked Up last night, it's amazing. Maybe a step below, but a very small step. Today in the frozen tundra it was about 50F all day. A beer that tastes like pumpkin pie warms me up, or maybe it's the alcohol. A solid 8 out of 10.

It's partly the alcohol, partly psychology.

Actually, it's all psychology, since alcohol actually lowers the body temperature. But the myth is so prevalent, we'll let it stand.

Beer Camp time again.

Torpedo Pilsner Hoppy Pilsner brewed with the Firestone Walker Brewing Company. 5.2% ABV & 45 IBU.

Mirky golden in color with a limited head, b6t what's there is sticking around. Not too much nose to it.

Taste: it's not bad. Not much in the flavor department, but it is hoppy, but not over the top so. It's a fairly easy beer to drink, but doesn't knock it out of the park. 5.5 out of 10.

My understanding is that alcohol dilates the capillaries and increases the flow of blood from the body core (which lacks temperature-sensing nerve endings) to the periphery (which has them). These nerve endings feel the warmth of the increased blood flow, so you feel warmer, but the increase in blood flow to the periphery increases the loss of heat to the environment (which is where the reduction in body temperature comes in).
