  • 3 Sheeps First Kiss.

I'm going to go ghetto, and drink it from the bottle, so no color or head measurment.

Nose is like a standard IPA.

Taste: it's got a lot of standard IPA flavor, but a hint of sweetness as well. Not a bad beer, but nothing spectacular. 5 out of 10.

        • Hello booze fans. It's a beautiful fall day here in the upper midwest - mid 80's for hight, so what better way to spend the day, than a drive to Wisconsin, the land of cheese, and, of course beer. I found 14 different beers today, that I have NEVER tried before. So here's a list of them

Valkyre Brewing co. 6 pack sample pack
          - War Hammer
          - Rubee Red Lager
          - AbBy Normal
          - Whispering Embers
          - Lime Twist
          - Big Swede

          Lazy Monk Oktoberfest
          American Sky Tailgunner Gold
          American Sky American Velvet
          4 Brothers Relative Madness
          Destihl Brewery Hoperation Overload
Gray's Busted Knuckle Irish Style Ale
          Lakefront Brewery Pumpkin Lager
          South Shore Wisconsin Pale Ale

I can't wait to give reviews of these beers over the next few weeks.

Tonight I'll review the Lazy Monk Oktoberfest

Nice light amber color, with a thick head. There is a nose, but I can't quite figure what it is.

Taste : Very smooth going down. It's got a very nice flavor, but nothing overpowering. It's a all around a very easy drinking Oktoberfest beer, and I'll give it a 6 out of 10. Not bad, and would go across the border to get it again.

And can't wait to read them, especially as I've spotted one or two here and there but haven't got around to them yet.

            • Well, hopefully this is one that you saw.

              4 Brothers Relative Madness.

              That pretty much describes today.

Ok, I'll be drinking this out of my 4 Brothers glass that I got when I bought the 6 pack in Eau Clare yesterday.

Nice pitch black color, or pretty damn close to it. It looks like a scotch ale, but it actually a mixture of a Porter and a Blonde Ale. I get a hint of chocolate in the nose.

Taste: Yes, there is a hint of chocolate in it, also the taste of the Porter comes out as well. I must admit it's a nice, and unique combination, and I'm glad I bought it. 6.5 out of 10. I can't wait till their products cross the border. This will be a good addition to ther Minnesota beer market.

Also on other beer, my friend also gave me 3 of the 4 beers in the Mad Hat sample pack - all the Pumpkin was consumed before I got to it. So, yeah, another 3 reviews after all the ones listed in the previous post.

              • Hoperation Overload by Destihl Brewery.

Nice dark amber color. Rich thick head. Nose is pretty stanard for an a IPA.

Taste: Yes it is hoppy. Very hoppy. Holy hopps Batman. Oh, my I just checked the can, it's 9.5% ABV, and 85 IBU. This is a good IPA, but if I would have actually read the label, I wouldn't have had it tonight. I will give it a 7 out of 10, but with the caution of it's strength.

                • I normally do my beer reviews as I drink them, but all this talk about pumpkin beers has me remembering a killer one I had a little while back, one I feel I need to comment on, as it is seasonal, and those of you who are into pumpkin beers are definitely going to want to go get this one.

Extracting from the notes I took in my phone at the time, here are my thoughts....

Crown Valley Imperial Pumpkin Smash ale (Missouri, 10.6% ABV): I had this in a bottle, and the first thing I noticed was the color, which was surprisingly dark for a pumpkin ale, being somewhere between dark brown and black. The nose was sweet, light, and pumpkiny. On the tongue, it was surprisingly light, but very chocolatey, with pumpkin notes and a pumpkiny finish. Delicious! I gave it an 8.5 out of 10, which is high praise from me indeed. I was with a couple of female friends who also had it, and they had the same impression as I did: that it is a fantastic pumpkin ale, and unlike most others on the market. Since then, I have described it to many people as tasting like a chocolate-covered pumpkin pie, a description which has met with agreement from others who have tasted it. Yes, it is very high in alcohol. It is also very high in deliciousness. So proceed carefully, but definitely proceed.

Is it the best pumpkin beer I've ever had? No. Is it in the top five of all time? Absolutely.

Vic, as this is from a Missouri brewery, I would imagine you can get it in your area. Do so. You won't regret it.

                  • Crown valley doesn't distribute to MN. I don't think they go out of MO. I got a 6 pack of the double IPA a month or so ago when I went down to Kansas City for a disc golf event. Great stuff, would love to try more.

                    • It sounds good, Jester. I'll be going to Illinois for a mini vacation late October, and I'll see if it's there.

Now for tonight's beer, and after all the stupid I had to deal with, I need it.

                      Lakefront Brewery Pumpkin

Nice, almost orange color to it. Not much head. As for the nose, there's pumpkin spices in it.

Taste: Nice flavor. As a pumpkin fan, I like it. Nice balance of the spices, and it's a well put together beer. 6.5 out of 10.

                      • Ah, heck, another review.

Valkyre Brewing Big Swede Sweedish Style Imperial Stout

Pitch black in color. Little head when poured. I almost get a hint of chocolate from the nose.

Taste: Wow. It's got a nice flavor to it. There's a tartness to it, but it goes down pretty easy. A very falvorful beer, too bad I have to go so far into Wisconsin to get it. A solid 6.5 out of 10, and would get it again.

One final note on this beer, and the others from the Valkyre Brewing co that I find funny: it's only available in Wisconsin: why does it have a refund on the label for other States? Hopefully they're thinking of expanding someday.

                        • My liver demands it, another review.

                          American Sky Tailgunner Gold

So far, I'm 100% with their products.

Nice golden color, with a modest head. I get a almost citrus nose to it.

Taste: The nose doesn't fail me here. It tastes citrusy, but with some hopps as well. It seems very well balanced. I'd say I'm 3 for 3 with their products. 7 out of 10 on this very drinkable beer.

Let's see, my nephew's birthday party is at 4:30 in Woodbury on the 12th, and the American Sky brewery in Hudson opens up at noon that day..... Yeah, I'll probably make a stop before the party, unless the Oliphant Brewery in Somerset sucks me in.

I'll try to snag this one next time I'm down in GB, sounds like it's right up my alley.

Take a look at their web page, VS. Although it's a layout and color scheme right out of the 90's, it DOES have what a lot of micros lack: a list of retail outlets. Wish more did that.
As far as the refund thing, maybe there's a label template that many micros use? I know I've seen them with the whole list of states (8? 10?) even though the beer would never go national. I suspect Valkyrie won't; they are apparently unpasteurized, which would make it expensive to ship.

I had it down here in Florida. Not just Florida, mind you, but the Florida Keys, where we don't always get distribution of stuff that might make it to all or parts of the mainland florida.

So somehow, they DO go outside of Missouri.

It is possible, I know what goes on in MN a lot better than the rest of the world.

What I was told is that they were MO only, but that was by a local, not the brewery themselves.
