* phone/iPod/camera/portable movie screen/etc. Yes, I know. Cool tech toy. But they ruined it by adding the phone part. That means people can find you no matter where you are**.

** Can you guess that my job has prejudiced me against cell phones? Guess what the first thing that goes when I get a new job is?

I feel bad for the Apple store employees and Cingular employees. As much as I'd like one it's too pricey for me and I've already got an ipod, an Apple laptop, and cell phone. I understand the appeal but right now that's just too much.

It's a job requirement for me. They pay for it... mostly... barring replacement... but I must have it to keep my job.

(I'm on the road a lot, going from account to account. It's a needed requirement. I don't argue against it. I just hate it.)

I will never get an iphone reasons:
1 only 4 gigs of storage non swapable, non-upgradable
2 runs on edge rather that 1xRTT(3g network broadband speed)
3 no replaceable battery-sealed unit max battery life 5 hours talking , < for using net
4 cannot download anything to phone, must hook up to computer
5 no camera
6 only works with yahoo e-mail
7 price plans are over $60/month for only 300 min/5000 n/w min
8 $500 price tag
9 security-the browser installed is a current in-use browser, there is no type of security software on the phone, no encryption over the edge network, and Apple has set the phone so that security features(anti virus, firewall, etc.) cannot be installed by the user-there is one person I know that's getting one to find and exploit the security holes
10 the screen on my ipod is badly scratched from being in my soft hoodie pocket-what is the iphone screen gonna look like after a month?

I think they have an 8gig model too. In fact, I think I just read that all Apple Employees that have been with Apple at least a year will get a free 8gig iPhone.

Security... buy an Apple laptop or computer and you won't see any of that stuff as well. The iPhone is basically going to run the same operating system as the computers. They really don't need any type of security.

I want that phone, but I do not want to switch to AT&T. I have major issues with them, and no matter how cool the phone is, it won't change my mind about them. It is a sweet phone, and it'll only get better.

Apple did a recent press release (about 4 days old now) stating that people will be paying about 3k for the phone and plans.
