Quoth Department stores *sigh* View Post
gunna be easy at my store. we dont even carry ipods!

    "No. Go to best buy."
Actually, Best Buy doesn't carry it either. The iPhone is only available through Apple and AT&T.

To those of you waiting outside a Best Buy in line right now, (cue Nelson from Simpsons) "haHa!"

No way in hell will I get the Iphone. Hell I don't even have an IPOD yet. for one simple reason....I'm a cheap bastard. My last phone was a Razer for about 50 bucks. And I even cringed at dropping that much on it. But for 50 bucks a month I get 3000 anytime minutes and I use my phone a lot (I forward my office phone to it when I'm out on a delivery, or when I go home after hours).

It sounds like a cool phone....but it also sounds like a cool techno TOY. I can see this being the common accessory to the lifted Hummer/big ass truck driving bastards who have to have the biggest and baddest shit possible.

Glad to see I'm not the only cheap one! I have an mp3, but not an IPOD. I have a zen, which i love...and really, what is an IPOD? an mp3 player. Got a 4GB zen for 119, with a $30 rebate...yes, i have to mail it in, but even so, not a bad price. 4GB Ipod i think is about $200 - And my cell? I have the provider where i get a new one every 2 years, when i renew. I make it easy, i get $100 credit, and never pay more than that..I love my current phone, and can get a new one in about 6 months...i pay 35 a month for 450 mins? and $5 more for unlimited texting...I never come close to using all my minutes.

I agree, I think its more of a toy and a novelty, at least to begin with, and yes, I also agree with who will be buying them (among other folks). I've never been one to buy stuff right off the bat; i like to see what happens, how it works, etc. Did the same with my new computer; held off, and when mine finally died, was able to get one still with XP, not Vista.

I think they have an 8gig model too. In fact, I think I just read that all Apple Employees that have been with Apple at least a year will get a free 8gig iPhone.
4 or 8 GB isn't going to be enough for me. I have 11GB of music on my computer and ipod and about 8 movies on there also along with a few episodes of Scrubs, Family Guy, and Sealab 2021. And I already have an Apple laptop and an ipod which are keeping me happy.

Security... buy an Apple laptop or computer and you won't see any of that stuff as well. The iPhone is basically going to run the same operating system as the computers. They really don't need any type of security.
I will agree on that but I keep some firewalls going just in case. I goofed around on an iphone and I must say I'm impressed. Quite a nice phone.

the screen on my ipod is badly scratched from being in my soft hoodie pocket-what is the iphone screen gonna look like after a month?
Odd, I constantly have my ipod in my jeans pocket along with my wallet and a bit of change and the screen isn't scratched. The only scratches I have are on the back and I do have a minor gripe but what do you expect. The thing fell at 5 feet and it doesn't even look like it's even chipped.

Granted I see the iphone as a novelty, I just wish people weren't so apt to bash Apple products quickly. I've had good experiences with them.

I work for the competition and we actually had 3 customers come in asking for the iPhone, one said that customer service told him we had it. Go figure.

Our UPS driver came in, he said that he stopped at the carrier's store that sells the iPhone earler, people tried to grab his boxes thinking he had them. They did the same to the FedEx guy who showe dup a few minutes later.

Um, people, don't you THINK that they had the phone BEFORE today???

I'll make everyone this deal... if you ever see me standing in line to buy a phone, you can laugh at me, point at me and liberally berate me.

                People! It's a PHONE*! . . . * phone/iPod/camera/portable movie screen/etc. Yes, I know.
Man, I already have an M.P.3 player, and a wireless telephone, and a camera, and as far as portable entertainment goes mass-market paperbacks fit right in your back pocket and they're still under ten dollars each, (though not for long.) Why does everything have to be in the same plastic box? Or these days, more like a plastic cigar case.

The iPhone costs $600 with a 2 year contract of $60 per month so it's geared towards people who have BIG bucks. I wouldn't want one even IF it cost 20 bucks. Just like the Playstation 3-OVER PRICED!

Not only that, but if you decide that AT&T's service sucks, and want out of your conctract; you will have to pay the early term fee, and then be stuck with a phone you can't use, since AT&T has an exclusive 5 YEAR contract for the iphone. And I'm betting these might be the same people who paid to get out of their other provider contracts early for the iphone....But i'm guessing a lot of people missed that, and only see the shiny, fancy new toy they can get!

Our local paper was covering some of the local stores; the one in the center where i work had a 14-year-old and his mom, first in line, to spend his graduation money on it. Um, he's 14 - wanna bet whose going to pay the monthly bill? And if he's anything like me at that age, it won't last; either lost, dropped or stolen. But hey, not my money...i'll just keep my separate gadgets and be happy.

you can find scratchproof screens for your Ipod (I did)...$165 is still an expense for me...$600, and I'd put that thing in an inch thick silicone cover.

yes...many headaches over the iPhone. I think it sounds like a really neat device...but at $499 or $599 WITH contract...that's a lot of money to spend on a phone. and FYI, you have to activate it yourself, through Apple's website...with an iTunes account. AT&T is the only provider offering it because they were the only provider willing to bend over and let Apple do whatever they wanted. Many AT&T stores do not even carry it- you have to get it through Apple or through a select market.

My hunny thought of getting one, but he thought it would be sacrilege since he would only want it to make phone calls (it's super thin- he hasn't found a super thin phone to suit his needs since the ORIGINAL Razr..you know, back before they were made of cheap plastic- when they were expensive and not everybody and their brother had one- he repaired that phone when he broke the screen rather than getting a new one) Needless to say though, he's done his homework on the iPhone. Whether he eventually gets one remains to be seen.

I just want to check one out...I think the whole interface sounds pretty nifty.
I will not shove “it” up my backside. I do not know what “it” is, but in my many years on this earth I have figured out that that particular port hole is best reserved for emergency exit only. -GK

Actually, I just bought a black RAZR* on clearance about a month ago, and it's definitely made of metal. Things are getting so small these days that the extra weight added by making something out of metal is worth the durability.

*Do you know how hard it is for me to type stupid things like "RAZR" and "iPod?" I used to type "I-Pod," but then some idiot who just had to be right said, "u know, it's 'iPod.'" And I was all like, "Gee, I didn't know that. I wasn't, rebelling or anything." Stupid marketing.

There's an Apple store one block from where I work (in a very wealthy city I could never afford to live in). The line was going strong Thursday morning. After work Friday I ended up driving by an AT&T store just before 6 pm, and they had an impressive line wrapped around the store. This is a city where people can afford to dump their phones regularly, so, if they're not happy, in three months they'll be signing up for the latest and greatest, except for the die-hard Apple users.

After doing some homework on it, I do not want an IPhone. I already have a Laptop & Desktop Computer, I have a MP3 player(Not IPOD), plus I already have a digital camera, that I tend to take everywhere already, plus I have a kick-ass phone.
