I've had a few sightings in my time. A few short ones, Jameson Parker (from the TV show Simon and Simon) came into the mini mart I used to work at and I've pumped gas for Sam Elliot.
My personal favorite (said with dripping sarcasm) was David Ogden Steirs. You remember, Major Winchester from M.A.S.H. What an ASS. He used to come into the antique store that I worked at just out of high school. He wanted to be noticed. The first time he was in I acted like he was just any other customer, because you always hear how stars don't want undue attention drawn to them. Not this guy. He lit up like a christmas tree when my boss recognized him and started gushing over him. He was totally pompus. When she told him how much she had liked him in M.A.S.H, and how much she loved him in Perry Mason, he looked down his nose at her and went into a diatribe about him also being on the board at Julliard. My boss did put him in his place though. She told him that he wasn't famous for that, he was famous for being on T.V.
After that he tended to be a bit more subdued when he came in (he came in about 4 or 5 times), but was still rather snotty. I stopped helping him when he made fun of how I talked. I have a little bit of a lisp and tend to slur sh sounds. The jackass actually taunted me about it.

My dad was talking to a guy once, and mentioned something about how it's become a geek's world. He said something like, "I bet guys made fun of Spielburg when he was in school."
The guy he was talking to got a funny look on his face, and said, "I went to high school with Steve. We used to laugh at him and jokingly ask if we could be in his movies. We aren't laughing anymore."

Don't think I've randomly met anyone famous...(have met Ray Bradbury, my idol, but I went to the location specifically to do that, so...not random). My company does have Eartha Kitt on our membership roster though.

Well I was thinking about this and I guess I have a few.

As far as work goes, we get alot of Broncos players in here. The pizza place I worked at used to get them all the time after a big win at a home game. At dish I noticed a few funny names, including "Star Jones", "Tara Reid" and "Jesse McCartney".

As for real life, my best friends little sister is John Elway's Daughters' best friend. Apparently the Elways are not pleasent people. I wouldn't know.

And when I was little I talked to Cyndi Lauper on the phone, my big sister was a HUGE fan and apparently at a concert she gave Cyndi her phone number on a birthday card, well she actually called my sister and I picked up the phone. :P Kinda cool, I guess.

Oh, and apparently my mom's best friend is really good friends with Issac Hayes.

          I've waltzed with Larry Niven.

My brother's last girlfriend was friends with Axl Rose. She met him in a bar when she was too drunk (and it was too dark) for her to recognize him and gushed about how big a fan she was for like an hour. She wanted to crawl away and die of embarrassment when he gave her his name to go with his phone number.

My ex works at Kinko's and he once asked a guy who was getting copy work on some art for the band Dokken. It was Don Dokken.

My ex also did graphics work at Kinko's for Brian Gillis. He's a magician and a cool guy, so we got to have dinner and a show at The Magic Castle as his guests. That was way cool.

My uncle was the head mechanic on Roger Mear's pit crew. And my aunt (his wife) has given hair cuts to both him and Rick. According to my uncle, a lot of racers (especially track racers) tend to be sexist pigs. And Earnhardt had a massive ego and wasn't all that nice a guy.

I send money to a plant manager named Samuel Jackson.

I worked at a car dealership in Grapevine, Tx (cashier in service department) and saw an RO for a Rusty Greer. Turned out to be the same Rusty Greer who was once an outfielder for the Texas Rangers. And, oddly enough, I caught a foul ball off him when I was like 10. Pretty weird how that all works out.

Also, Tad Nyguen (sp?) who plays/plated for the Dallas Cowboys came into the same dealership to get his SUV fixed. I saw him leaving for my lunch break and coming back, but I never talked to him.

I figure famous people get it enough, I'm not going to bother them. Can't say I'd ever get crazy over seeing any celebrity.

              ok, for celebraty names...
My high school ROTC instructer was Michael Jackson
I've before made reservations for a Carlos Mencia

              and on to sightings
when I worked at National Car rental I missed Jane Fonda by 5 minutes (oh I was pissed, I came on my shift and the person I was replacing told me how 5 minutes ago Jane Fonda returned her car at Avis).
Oh yeah, I've also spoken to Michael Moore's executive assistant, as well as Mitt Romney's cousin (great guy actually, lives only about 5 hours away from me too).
and for VIPs (not really celebreties)
when I worked for National Car Rental I saw church officials all the time (and I feel bad saying I can't remember the names of most of them... but I remember one was a guy I have seen speak a few times, I even got to meet him in person before that in Logan... and the cool part was that he remembered me... ok, so probably a better word would be recognized, but he did know that he had met me in Logan and he had asked when I moved to Salt Lake).
When I was waiting for an interview at the Alta Club I saw about 4 state senators walking out of the restaurant.
oh and my favorite story was a coworkers (i wish I could have been so lucky), when I was working in parking enforcement I came in one morning said hello to my coworker, we were getting our stuff ready for the day and the manager came in and said "hey T, congrats, you gave a parking ticket to the district attorney yesterday" of course my coworker asked if he was in trouble and my manager's response was, nope, the DA shouldn't of been parked there.

I met Terry Pratchett - got two autographed books and everything. VERY nice man!
Also met James Avery (Uncle Phil from Fresh Prince) - such a softy! He's TALL though - have a picture with the two of us together, and i'm widdle!
Locally, before they were famous, I went to the high school prom with a hottie from a local soapie, and was friends with the "superhero" of a chain store (in their ads).

Back in the Air Force, I used to play D&D with Mat Dilion (pronounced "Dylan"), who was roomates with Luke Perry.

I was working at a movie theater one time when Will Smith came in. Never saw him, he was ushered in through a rear entrance and given VIP treatment from the owner of the company.

I did meet Shanon Ozborne once. (Ozzie Ozborne's wife ). A friend of mine was working security at Ozfest one year and we got to meet her... she is definitely one of the nicest ladies you will EVER meet.

Had another friend meet Mark Summers (Former host of double dare)... apparently, he's an Obsessive-compulsive asshole.

There has been a lot of movie action in NW Louisiana lately. My best friend did a day of extra work for the movie Soul Men and was close to Samuel L. Jackson when the director was saying something...he caught her eye and rolled his eyes at whatever was being said. She also chatted with Jennifer Coolidge (Stifler's mom from the American Pie movies). She says both were very nice, though Jennifer was a bit of a ditz.

I think that was the OCD (diagnosed, and he really has it bad). He was on Bob & Tom a little while ago talking about it. Even he admits that it was affecting him to the point of social incapacitation, and he's working with a doctor to get things under control. He had some really funny/sad stories about what he would do at home because of it.

For celebrity names I worked with a Lee Majors. The guy was ancient but had some good war stories.

I met Danny DeVito and his wife Rhea Perlman at the UCLA hospital. They both were very nice people.

I also met Loretta Swit at a luncheon at a local community college. She was a very nice person to meet, the only thing that bothered me at the time was the plastic surgery she had had.

One of the first men I met in my company was Michael Jackson. Tho if you asked me he looked more like Dustin Hoffman.

Oh and yeah, Bill Clinton works at my branch too. I don't see him much tho. (not the real Billary tho)

                              2) I also used the urinal next to Walter Koenig when he was a guest at Origins one year. He kept his eyes to himself, and so did I.

Ok, I'm ruling that in my case, at least, celebrities seen/met at conventions/symposia don't count. Otherwise I'd have to throw in several authors and an artist or two.

For names, my roommate's academic advisor at Uni was David Bowie, and we both took an English class from William Shakespeare. Also, while working at a call center, I had to make calls to Kobe Bryant and Bruce Wayne (I suspect both were fake names).

As for real celebs met outside conventions.... I've taken writing classes from Dave Wolverton (writes fantasy under the name David Farland) and Brandon Sanderson (the guy Tor got to write the last Wheel of Time novel). Both are awesome people, and I highly recommend their books (and not just 'cause I know them). I also went to high school with two of Arnold Schwarzenegger's cousins.
