I wonder what effect "Stairway to Heaven" would have.

I second the chunks of quartz crystal, although I would personally find some black tourmaline jewelry and wear it or a small chunk of it somewhere on your desk. I would also recommend selenite, although that's more to clean an area of everyday negative energies than spirit energies. I also second the iron, since evil spirits are afraid of it. Spitting in their general direction is also advised, as is wearing a rosary that has been blessed. Another simple thing is to trace the symbol of a pentagram in your mind, starting at the top point and going to the bottom right, top left, top right, bottom left and up again while saying/thinking, "Spirit, earth, air, water, fire, I call on you to bless and protect this place". Draw a circle around it, pretend it's hovering in the air, let it grow and encompass the place. It works wonders.
What you can do to check if your hotel is haunted, though, is to check for this leaden feeling, of feeling so sad and unhappy and depressed that you'll be stifled (and that's obviously different from feeling unhappy at work). Does this feeling happen when you go into the hotel and evaporate when you leave? Then your hotel is haunted.
Another thing you could do is ask them what they want, point blank. "How can I help you?" and then listening to what they say. They may reply back in your head (and if it's truly a spirit their answer will reverbrate in the very back top part of your head, near the top of the cranium-at least that's what I've found) or you may hear their voice again, or even see this picture in your mind. If you get this feeling like a vise grip in your head, then stop because you've had your limit of talking to them (again, this is what I've found). It can't hurt to ask them what they want, though. They could just want something as simple as to chat with you, or as complex as their murder solved.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts.-Winston Churchill

Hey Smiley.
I think the most important thing to do, is ask this spirit "But what are the winning numbers?". Also, other obvious questions include "When do I get the prize?, What is the prize? Can I cash it or change it? Can you get me more winning numbers??"
I'm obviously coming from a different tradition than the others who have replied here, though there are similarities to how to answer. If you've got a Native American reserve around, you could try asking what they would choose to do. On that part of the planet, they'd be the experts in all things metaphysical - as it's a part of their traditions and life.
personally, I don't use crystals or rocks.
I do, however, have a couple of rituals I occasionally use. If you're interested, drop me a line. (with numbers)
As for "How can I help you?" - be very careful with this one! You might get such answers as "I'm sure I booked a queen bed, and now I've got a double. I spoke to the night clerk a couple of days ago, and he assured me it wouldn't be a problem, even though I booked it late. No, I don't have the reservation number. Also, I was here last winter and I booked a room, but then I decided I didn't need it, but I still got charged this fee. Now I told the fellow that, but they still charged it to my card. Can't you give me a refund? It's really quite appalling how this happened, I mean..... blah blah blah blah....."
Which is to say - try not to be freaked out about it. You may not be used to it, but it is a perfectly natural part of the operations of this universe! OTOH, you may wish to get a few ideas from this boy that you can contribute to the 'Free Will' debate in Fratching
(Ha! And you even suggested I be taken seriously!! HA!)
When I said "From my research", what I actually meant to say was "Made shit up" - from a thottbot thread

Sorry I haven't updated in a while... the ghost oddly enough isn't as active when we're busy (I don't think he likes crowds... my coworkers who have been here a while have noticed the same thing) and as most of you are aware... we are crazy busy. Is it wrong though that I kind of miss the ghost now that he's gone into hiding? If you wish to find meaning, listen to the music not the song

I get ghosts fixating on me a lot because they can tell who's sensitive to them. I've got shields on my apartment right now because of having to run out a shadow person. I can still hear it in the rocks outside from time-to-time trying to find a chink in the shielding.

Quoth smileyeagle1021 View Postfunny you should mention that... the ghost seems to like Coast to Coast AM... I wonder if he'd like MoTab as well...

Like others have said, if it was malicious, you would have been able to feel it and it would have done something by now. Just asking them to "knock it off" (and I've used those exact words) usually works beautifully. It's floating wicker propelled by fire!

Quoth Misanthropical View PostI find that bringing in a priest/pastor to bless the place just makes thing much worse. Yes, I do speak to priests and pastors without bursting into flames.
I feel the spirits think they are being thought of as evil and not wanted and act out, just like a child would if you acted like they were evil and not wanted.
"Heavenly Father, we ask you to bless this room, and all those who occupy it. Protect them from harm and evil, and fill this home with love and warmth, in Christ, Our Lord, Amen." (EG, if you're a goober who just needs to move on, you're ok. If you're evil Jesus says GTFO!)
Now if it starts possessing people, it's time to get all Exorcist on their ghostly asses. "THE POWAH OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU!!! THE POWAH OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU!!! THE POWAH OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU!!!!11!1!!eleventy!111~~~

I have had an experience in a hotel as a guest.
Back in 2002, i was staing in this old hotel in Hobart, Australia - it used to be a wealthy-ish family's house - the family were 2 devoted parents of a sick little girl who tragicaly past away as a child - this was over 100 years before i visited.
Admittedly, I am a skeptic about most thngs, but not what smiley and misanthropical are describing - that is after the 2 nights I stayed in the hotel, I started to believe in spirits because I sawone face to face and heard another.
I stayed in the older building in a very nice room, the service was exceptional in ths hotel and there was just a nice feeling about it.
A couple things to note:
1. I do not drink alcohol at all and
2. I have a rather analytical mind
When I arrived at the hotel in the early afternoon, I was tired and drained, it had been a long week at my workplace back in Melbourne, Australia - quite distressing in fact, and i needed a break, so I guess I was at a low point.
I went to my room and had a nap for a couple of hours. When I woke up, it was early evening and the room was dim, could have sworn I saw someone at the doorway, but when i looked there was no one there - I just assumed it was just a waking up 'shadow'.
I went out forthe evening, for tea and for a historical tour - the tour was very interesting.
Hobart is a safe-ish city, so I walked bck to the hotel, went in and went towards my room and stopped dead in my tracks...
in front of me, about 10-15 feet away, was a child in distinctly 19th century clothing looking at me from the darkened stairway at the end of the hall - I froze, but jut briefly, she smiled, waved and then disappeared - but I felt at ease.
I went ot my room and sat on my bed and reflected on what I just saw... thinking i was seeing things again, I went to sleep.
The next morning, I asked at the front counter about the spirit - they said 'oh, she is a resident ghost, she won't harm you'
I asked if there were anymore, they said that the child's parents also are around and they are nce also.
That night, when I went to bed, I was just dozing off when I heard a lady's voice say 'goodnight'
Apparantly that was the mother, and she always does this.
As I left the next day, I said to the empty room 'Thank you', just as I turned around to leave, a man's voice faintly said ' You're welcome'
It was a very nice experience

My father has it and has never said it was evil. If we are within a couple of miles of each other it seems to boost both our abilities.
My children all have the "gift" and know they can come to me to talk about it if they wish. I tell them what they have is in no way evil, it's just something we were born with. I tell them not to discuss it with their friends, because we live in a Bible belt of sorts and their friends and the friend's families would not understand.
I don't know if there is a connection or not, but I think there might be, that people with ADHD and/or ADD and/or Asperger's seem more in tune to the spirit world. At least it seems that way in my family. Although, my daughter doesn't seem to have even a hint of ADD, ADHS or Asperger's, but she still seems to be a magnetDo not annoy the woman with the flamethrower!

We do have Irish blood and Bulgarian blood, which I am told are more "sensitive" than others.
My Shaolin teacher told me that I am doubly blessed, because I straddle both worlds without having to deal with the veil. I told him that sometimes it feels like a curse.Do not annoy the woman with the flamethrower!

Yup, it's a party! WOO HOO! or not.
My daughter often sees the spirit of an old man who recently died. She sees him outside his house. The first time she walked by his house after he died, she saw him sitting on the porch next to his widow.
I don't know if the widow knew he was there or not, but the man and my daughter just stared at each other for awhile till she walked away. Luckily, the widow had gone inside and didn't see my daughter looking like a crazy person.
I told my daughter he was probably shocked that someone could see him.
She told me the next time she walked by he was in the yard, so she said "hello" and waved. He waved back at her with a smile. She doesn't want to upset the widow, so she has never told the woman that she has seen her husband.
I'm going to ask her to walk me by the house to see if I can see him.
My daughter told me she saw our spirit once. He was in a blue civil war uniform and likes to tap her on the shoulder or my daughter will feel like someone is looking over her shoulder when she is on her computer.
He even came down to listen to us talk about him. No, we didn't see him. We both sensed him standing in the room listening. He left when we moved on to other supranational experiences that we have had.
I even told my daughter the story of how I got bit by a spirit (not our solider spirit) and had to show my husband the bite mark to get him to believe me. The teeth marks did NOT match mine or anyone else's in the house. It creeped my daughter out a bit hearing the story.
My poor baby girl also suffers from sleep paralysis, which as everyone who has ever had it knows bites the big one.Do not annoy the woman with the flamethrower!
