    How are your guys' businesses dealing with the removal of the penny? I'd imagine its not the biggest deal ever. I'm starting to see the "round up for x amount, round down for y" instructional signs pop up lol

    Haven't noticed any difference yet. Then again where I am working everything ends in .25, .50, .75
    or .00 with GST included.

      Yeah. I don't deal with any money at work. But I am curious to see how it all works

        I'm so not looking forward to the whole rounding thing. Gonna be a pain I'm sure when I have to refund something cash at work and they bought it before the changes and I have to round it to give their money back and they lose out on a couple pennies

          I'm certainly not looking forward to the transition.

          As we all know, SCs tend to complain to us about stuff that's nowhere near our fault.

            Haven't had a shift since last week but I go in tomorrow; will see if there's any info about it. (Literally nothing has been said about it to date ...)

              We've only gotten the pamphlet which advises us how to round up or down. I think the concept is simple enough, but I'm sure that won't stop customers from crying about how they're getting ripped off and that it "adds up". Never mind the fact that half the time it's rounded down though. That adds up too. ...or rather it adds down.

                Looking forward to it like I'd be looking forward to getting a tooth pulled using the scenic route, ifyouknowwhatimean.

                I can round up or down no prob, it's trying to explain it to my easily offended customer base that's gonna be fun and sunshines.

                    It isn't that hard. The cash register will probably round off for you in a few months anyway, most do here.
                    The customers, especially the older ones, will probably be as sucky as you can imagine. They have been every time the Danish government have removed more øre-coins.
                    Now we only have the 50-øre coin left and I'm old enough to remember when you could get an icecream for 25 øre .
                    The rounding up and down evens out, though. No big problem.

                      I'm entitled to what I get from the rounding down! Rounding up is the gubbmint stealing from me and you're their confederate! Bet you get a cut of what you steal! Rabble rabble rabble!

                        You've caught me! I've got a BATHTUB FULL OF PENNIES that I'm stealing from people like you!! Gonna finance my retirement with 'em all!!!

                        Assuming I plan to retire when I'm, oh, about 165 ...

                        Still have no info from my workplace. However, another store has a sign by the cash register explaining that this is coming soon and one of the cashiers told me it's going to be very basic: if the total is below 5, you round down; if 5 to 9, you round up.

                        If we follow the same procedure as this particular retailer, I predict that the real fun will come when we have to explain to people that this doesn't apply to debit card/credit card/gift card transactions. It only applies to cash.

                          Bolded part is wrong. If it is 3, 4, 8 or 9 you round up to the nearest 5 (5 or 0). If it is 1, 2 or 6, 7 you round down to the nearest five ( 0 or 5 ).

                          So:
                          0.88$ => 0.90$
                          0.89$ => 0.90$
                          0.90$ => 0.90$
                          0.91$ => 0.90$
                          0.92$ => 0.90$

                          0.93$ => 0.95$
                          0.94$ => 0.95$
                          0.95$ => 0.95$
                          0.96$ => 0.95$
                          0.97$ => 0.95$

                          Penny FAQ

                          And yeah, it only applies to cash purchases and ONLY on the final total. So if you make 3 99 cent tax-free purchases, you save 2 cents by paying cash.

                          And if you're in my neck of the woods where the HST is 13%, if you make 1 99 cent purchase with tax you would save 2 cents paying by cash. (1.12 with tax, round down to 1.10)
