I was initially appalled at the idea of a wallet that boasts "I read porn!! " to everyone who sees you pay for something. Then again, I'm the one who used to read yaoi comics on public transit...

Ultimately I think the Fifty Shades phenomenon comes from women suddenly not being embarrassed to read porn. Which is kind of cool, although there's so much stuff that's so much better out there. D:

I read the 50 shades books to see what the fuss was about Then, I had to read Twilight to see what had spawned it. And, after reading 50 shades, I was expecting the Twlight books to be far far far worse than they actually were. Not that they're great books or anything, but they weren't as horribly written as the 50 books.

I love the Jen Reads recaps. So much more entertaining than the actual books.

(and my favorite 50 shades related thing--is the person who posted that they kept hearing "Oh My" in George Takei's voice.. every time they read it in the books.)
To be honest, I never saw what others did in Twilight... I mean the bad things. I always saw Bella as self-sacrificing. Although technically I never read the books - other than Midnight Sun - so maybe it just comes out differently in audiobook than it does in actually reading it.

Hay u gaiz, I just had an evil idea.

Upon seeing a woman reading Fifty Shades of Grey or another book in the series, I should sit next to her and start reading a Tucker Max book.

Tucker Max, the author of such books as "I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell", "Assholes Finish First" "Hilarity Ensues" and "Sloppy Seconds: The Tucker Max Leftovers". The stories he publishes in his books are taken from his blog on TuckerMax.com, where he talks about drinking and his various sexual encounters.

Basically, to paraphrase Denis Leary, he's an asshole and proud of it.

Another wallet came in tonight. It says "Unlock Your Inner Goddess" and has a picture of handcuffs on it.

                  Two questions:

                  1. Is anybody making Letters To Penthouse wallets, and
                  2. If not, why not?

When I was reading it, my thoughts were mostly "if I were 15, I'd be loving this shit". Because when I was 15, I was into Anne Rice and her vampires. And they're not exactly good literature either.

Heh. I haven't read Tucker Max myself, but my bf did show me the part in "beer" where the girls throwing up and yelling at him. Am I going to hell for laughing?

and, i'm reminded of when I was reading Kushiel's Dart on my second ship. One of the guys saw me reading it on the mess decks and scoffed at me.

                      Guy: A romance book.
Me: Actually it's science fiction. (well really it's fantasy but yeah it's NOT a romance book!)
                      Guy: Really? Cool.

If anyone, as I was, is curious to see just how bad Fifty Shades actually is, may I recommend:

                            Jen Reads Fifty Shades
Ok, that was frucking hilarious! Just sat here and read the whole recap of the first book!

She's addicting. Literally laughing in every re-cap, I'll be sad when she's done with the third book.

But, now I'm reading her other shit, so that's good (Jen's not ....anyone else).

I read it online and was not impressed. -.- To be honest, if I wanted to read erotica, I could easily find well written erotic online for free.
