  • Handicapped Parking Spot=Shopping Cart Corral?

Short background: My mom is dating a guy who is paralyzed from the chest down.

When we run errands that only take a short while, it's easier for my mom to run into the store to get what it is, than going through all the trouble of getting into the wheelchair and getting out of the vehicle, etc. This day, Kenny (mom's boyfriend) needed to get something for a neighbor, so we stopped at an Ingle's (grocery store). Kenny parked in a handicapped spot and mom went into the store. I sat in the front seat and we talked while we waited.

The sighting is this. I saw a guy deliberatly (I mean he literally made sure it was in the perfect spot) park his shopping cart in front of the van doors (they swing out and the lift comes down). I couldn't believe it. It was rude and insensitive (and he was damn lucky that Kenny didn't need to get out or I would have laid into this guy). The worst part? The shopping cart corral was right near that guy's vehicle

I was too in shock to say anything to the guy, but I seriously made some angry remarks about him to Kenny (who saw the whole thing too).

It still kind of angers me to think that the guy was an insensitive moron and a jerk to boot....

Wow. I actually saw a lady without handicap tags of any sort, double park across a handicap parking space and a non handicap space. To this day, I regret not calling the cops.

Yell at them and call the police I say. No mercy. Unless they have a handicap card and just forgot to put it up.

Been there, done that. Lazy people will leave their shopping carts anyplace but the corral, including the handicapped parking spaces.

If only management would give some thought to my idea of rooftop snipers to deal with these people...le sigh.

Sorry, since you mum isnt the handicapped person, you should not be using a handicapped space - only if the handicapped person is getting out and going into the location. One of my pet peeves, and also in the state of Connecticut a ticketable offense.

i mentioned the issue before. I don't remember who replied but I believe it was someone who qualified to use a handicapped spot, and they replied that they liked having a cart right there for their use.

Also, if the person leaving the cart there is someone who legally parked in the handicapped spot, I would tend to be more forgiving, since walking (or rolling) to the corral might be a a bit beyond what the customer's body can handle at that moment.

so... personally... I think they should just have a corral right next to the handicapped spots. close enough to not aggravate any physical conditions, but not so close as to intrude on mobility & getting in and out of cars.

Perhaps a compromise? Paintball guns instead of sniper rifles, load the paintballs with egg whites instead of paint, and aim for the car...perhaps write "I park like an asshole" in splats?

Wow, it's the other way around down here in Florida. As long as the handicapped person is in the vehicle with the tag, they can park in the spot. The reason being that just because they don't go in at first, they may have to go in later.

I can see handicap people leaving carts near the spaces because they may not be able to walk them to the corral, but the SC who are capable to return them to the corral just dump them the because that is closer. Grrr.

I think I may have been the one to say that in the past. Many days I have had to use a regular cart to get inside to get a riding cart. I then leave the riding cart inside and use a regular cart to get back to my truck.

Luckily, at the stores I shop, handicap parking is laid out in such a manner that there is space to leave carts near the slots where the carts do not block any of the loading zones. The official cart corrals are a good distance away, making it difficult for may patrons to properly put away the carts.
Everything will be ok in the end. If it's not ok, it's not the end.

I hate when people use handicap spots and they aren't, in fact. I take pictures with my nice camera of their car from front and back, and usually try and make sure they see me doing it. (no im not scared of people)

I COMMONLY see handicapped spots with far more shopping carts in them than the corral. I see it all the time and it completely flabbergasts me every single time I see it.

then those who *are* trying to get into gimp parking and get into the location cant get the gimp parking because the nongimp went in ...

and why yes, i do refer to myself as a gimp frequently. I am not particularly interested in being PC about myself =)

the stores should do what they do here. the carts are chained up and you put a quarter in them to unlock them and when you relock them you get the quarter back.

Handicapped spot or not I hate the lazy asses who leave shopping carts IN parking spots.

Either bring your cart back into the store or leave it outside in one of the corrals that were put ther FOR shopping carts.

I'm sure i'm not the only one who's went to pull into a space between two other cars only to realize. oh no wait... someone left a damn cart right @ the end.

And one cart seems to attract others... it's usually 2 or 3 shopping carts in one spot. like people just figure 'well someone else started it so it's not my problem'
Common sense... So rare it's a goddamn superpower.
